I have an '08 135i convertible. I've been looking at some wheel/tire combos for winter and found a used set.
The owner says they are fitted with 205/50/17's and the rims are 17x7.5 with an offset of ET34.

Does anyone have a similar setup they can share experience of ?

With that narrow of a tire you shouldn't run into any issues at all.

Well, you're going to be running a wheel with a lower offset, so it will be pushed outward more. But you gotta remember you're also going to be running a narrower tire. Likely any difference in the amount they would be further out then stock is compensated by the narrow(er) tires.

The current tires are the same width as the new tires, just that the new tires are mounted on rims with the lower offset so the only difference in the set up will be the offset. The fitment tool confirms my thoughts, the wheels will stick out an extra 13mm.
When I try to buy the set up at tire rack for my car, the website says it's not available for my car.....presumably because they think it won't fit ?
I'm wary of driving 100 miles and paying $500 for something that is going to rub....I can always mount the snow tires on my current 47 offset rims I guess and try to sell the 34 offset rims. Not ideal, but not a complete waste of money.

So I put the winter set up on the car and I can hear the fronts rubbing when I hit dips in the road, brake hard into slight dips etc. I suspect its from the fenders rather than the wheel well since the offset pushes the outside edge about 13mm outwards. I went from 47 standard to 34. It doesn't sound like it slams into whatever it hits, just catches it. I don't think I can roll the fender as I'm pretty sure the passenger side was replaced with a non-metal fender at some point. The paint doesn't quite match and it makes a much deader sound when you tap on it.
Aside from changing wheels, any other suggestions ?
Would some kind of wedge in the front springs fix it ? I heard about something that is sold that goes between the tie rod and the rack that could adjust it back in a bit.
Disappointing because the car looks so much better now the wheel wells are filled out instead of those stock 47 offsets kinda hiding in there....

Anyone ?

yes,sadly if you do go with lower offset/bigger tires up front,you will rub. i learned that the hard way too
i had the same issue using 18x8 +40. fronts rubbed on dips. turns out the sidewall hits the inner edge of the fender. rolling the inner edge using a heat gun and a small rubber mallet did the trick

I have painters tape on my fenders right now to see exactly where they are rubbing. No evidence yet.....
That said, I feel like the front is really soft although my previous car was a Mazdaspeed so was probably set up to be more "sporty" than a stock E88.
I also have a plastic lip that is underneath the front bumper, I did wonder if it was that which was rubbing against the ground over the dips....possible.
I really like the look of the car with these rims, hopefully I can fix this.....I have a friend with a roller and a heat gun...just need the weather to co-operate. 5 degrees in CT right now !
