N54 downpipes

How safe are catless downpipes for the n54 engine with 60k miles already on it I have an extended warranty just curious what kind of problems if any I would run into all I have now is a AFE Dci and jb4

Wont hurt a thing. About 20hp and 30ft/lbs of torque. You wont pass emissions though unless you use a DP fix device.

VRSF and BMS make cost-effective options that have gotten fairly good reviews, though you do see some fitment/quality issues every now and then pop up. Cpe, AR, and Macht Schnell all make superb pipes, Gthaus makes great stuff as well but for whatever reason I don't see people running their downpipes. Then the top of the line (imo) would be Akrapovic and Supersprint. Both are heinously expensive.

In our country they put something down the exhaust pipe to test for CO and gases or something not sure what exactly will Catless dp pass that type of test?

No, absolutely not. Catless will fail any and all emissions testing there is no way around that (unless you've got a buddy at a shop).

Well it isn't a shop its a government owned testing center so I guess I cannot go the catless route

Some states here in the US just use the OBDII port for testing. In this instance a DP fix device will get you by. The sniffer test though is a no go for catless anything.

Like I said, crazy expensive...I'd be willing to pay a premium for Akra over say AR or other "merely" high-end companies, but over $1.5K for two pieces of test pipe....nah.

Sure you can, you'd just need to swap out to the OE downpipes for testing...Granted that is neither cheap nor convinient, it would probably come down to labor costs in your country, and how often you have to pass emissions testing.

I was thinking of going the catted downpipe route and people haven't passed emissions this way either. So I said screw it, do my emissions before Feb 16th, install the catless DPs and not worry about it for 2 years.

OP, you have to remember that you aren't guaranteed to pass emissions with an aftermarket catted DP, possibility of still failing emissions

Thanks for the input I have seen most of those names I was also looking at Active Auto's downpipes seemed reasonable and I've heard there quality is good and they are also only 30miles from me but I'm looking in the 5-700$ range also what should I expect labor cost to be or hours

Ya in MD it's not a big deal, once every two years I could live with. But i've never seen race catted downpipes pass a sniffer test or an obd test sans Dp fix, which like you said largely defeats the purpose (imo). I want downpipes bigtime so I can be FBO, but i've worked out a truce with my SA regarding CPO warranty, and I don't want to agitate it further by going full catless. Downpipes are technically speaking a DIY job, but outside of chargepipes and intakes, I stay out of my N54's engine bay. So cramped

I've been quoted $300-$350 which seems to be in-line with what I've read on this forum.
