Torque Pro App

I recently bought a ELM OBDII Bluetooth adapter for my Mazda CX-7 bc I keep getting a check engine light(evap error code I keep getting every time the temp reaches below freezing). I'm stationed in Germany so just to reset the check engine light I had to pay 40 bucks (does auto zone and local stores in the states still reset the light for free?) So I ordered the OBDII blue-tooth adapter and paid the 5 dollars or so for the app on my Samsung Galaxy III.
It reset the check engine light no problem (after checking the code and referring online to find its a common problem with my car).

Next I decided to try it out on my 2013 135i. It pulled a lot more raw data then it did on my CX-7. I'm guessing that's because of all the crazy sensors BMW loves to use.

So far I'm still figuring it out and everything it can do but I would highly recommend anybody spending the 20 bucks or so just to log some basic info and have a decent boost gauge for cheap.

Here is a screen shot of the latest log I recorded and sent to the online Android web app.

Has anybody else played with this app some more and can share some tips or tricks??

I have the app on my Nexus 7, but being that its a wifi-only device, I haven't had much use for it. However I do have a question. Looking at that graph, could you use that app to prove yourself out of a speeding ticket? If in fact you were wrongly accused that is.

Maybe... Before I told the app what to record when I start a log it was set to do just speed. It showed the route I took on its google maps feature. The line adjusted the colors from a light green to a dark red the higher the speed I went. The numbers on the bottom of the map are the actual time that the log was taken. You can mouse over the map and as you can see that little grey D bubble(just above 13:35 on the graph) shows up. That tells you all the information for that time at that spot on the map... It's actually really cool to play with.

I've been using the torque for obd data and TrackMaster for lap timing on track. great tools for the money.

this weekend i tried to use Torque to verify that my Dinan tune is still installed after a service with bmw. trying to do so by using the boost gauge, but the reading gets stuck at 2.2 . Now i have to start tinkering with the boost adjustment settings. If i get it right, i will post the settings.

otherwise, it is extremely useful. u could use it to monitor coolant temps at hpde, by setting a warning level for the coolant gauges - nice.

oil temp isnt coming from my obd apadtor, not sure if its the adapter or bmw Computer. do you get it with ur adapter?

Readings from the bmw computer are not as frequent as other manufacturers, my miata is more frequent, which makes it lag behind actual a bit, but fine for what i am using it for.

Good luck I've tried to go to court several times with pictures, witnesses etc for several things of running redlights and stop signs do to the light either not properly working, roads that let you pull out and park underneath the traffic light where you can't see what color it is and even signs hidden behind trees. In the end the judges everytime didn't judge in my favor and in one case said he didn't even care to look at my pictures, either I ran the light or I didn't.

Torque app - charting

Here's a quick chart of RPM vs. Boost directly from Torque. The boost varies according to throttle position on my N54, it ramps up extremely fast, and is pegged until with 200 rpms of redline. In this chart, my '08 135 (n54) with Dinan Stg 2, is just cruising along the highway in 2nd gear (the cluster of low boost dots, and then accelerate with WOT until hitting redline the drop-off visible in the graph is quite noticeable while driving, then I back off the throttle.

I've searched for a couple of hours on alot of forums looking for proper boost configuration on an N54, but no one has a definitive answer. So I assume that the boost is not correct. bmw codes are not known, but, I figure it's still relative for my car. If ever my Dinan gets turned off by a service technician, my chart would be different.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but is it okay to leave the adapter plugged in? Some cars cut off power to the port when it's not running and some don't, so I don't want to kill the battery.

Lol... If the light stays on after the car is turned off, it's still getting power. I have a different adapter but IIRC it stays on after the car is off.

I've got a ScanTool LX adapter and it sleeps itself to prevent battery discharge. I can imagine that if you adapter doesn't sleep, it would add a bit of extra discharge. I've read reviews of other adapters (on other cars) where this is a problem and they end up killing the battery.

I've got a BT elm device and a nexus 7 laying around unused that I'd like to hook up and see other data besides just the water temp. Not t sure where to mount it and be viewable/accessible with impacting other stuff in the center stack.
