I just had my High Pressure Fuel Pump replaced and for the first time siince I have owned my 135, I can hear the turbos spool at low engine RPMs.

I haven't noticed any lag either before or after the HPFP, but having driven a chipped Audi TT before this, I am probably not too sensitive to a little lag. The low to mid-throttle respose does seem to be better than before though.

I'm almost hoping for more long cranks so I can get HPFP replaced and upgraded software. Only a handful of long cranks thus far, and one service engine light. My dealer wont' take me seriously, I asked for the fault codes twice and repeatedly ignores my request.

I test drove a 135i auto when it was first released, I could swear the car was for more torquey than mine, and the turbo spool was clearly audible, I've NEVER heard mine outside of a garage or tunnel.

I never did get a CEL but long cranks were happening several times a week.

How could changing the fuel pump possibly make the turbos louder?

I'd get under the hood and make sure they didn't leave an intake pipe unhooked or something. That doesn't sound right to me at all, unless they also did a software update that changed the duty cycle of the baypass valves.

I sort of suspected the same thing or that the air filter had not gone back in but I checked and it and everything else I can see seems to be in place.

I can only hear the turbos spool when I'm driving next to a building or wall or something and I have the windows down.

I agree, I too notice this.

I tried a dinan car too... awesome!

Too bad there is not an easy way to prove stuff.

Maybe someone can come up with a "self-test" and run vids, and post it on youtube?

Example, for highspeed modem we can run tests, then post that on a modem site. Be nice to do the same with the car. (or something similar)

Take it to a different dealership. Make sure to tell the new dealership why. BMW has a specific procedure to test this known issue and specific thresholds that determine if a replacement part is necessary. No reason they should not put the fault codes on your service receipt (even for warranty work).

My HPFP was replaced after a CEL and a BMW technician's test that confirmed it could not maintain the required pressure. I did not notice a change in volume, lag, acceleration, etc after the change. My HPFP failure happened suddenly while driving, which may be why.
