Since I happen to like orange and black equally, I'm caught in this dilemma...if I liked either color better I would have made a decision already.
Get the colour you originally wanted, don't get BSM just because it's available now, get it only if it's the colour you've always wanted.

Imagine driving along and passing another 1M of the other colour, how will you feel? That'll help you decide.

(but if you're asking, mine will be BSM with BMW Performance carbon spoiler and grills)

Most vans in the world are white.
Dull people drive both white and black cars as well.

But few people dare to drive orange.
Try to look for "orange car" on Google images, and you get this.

Also, check this pic:

So go ahead, and take black. It will just make my VO 1M more unique and special.

Just put the rebel flag on the roof and an 01 on the door and you got yourself a General Lee.

I just got back from the Dallas Auto show and the VO 1M was there. Cool color but have you noticed lately that every manufacturer is making orange cars. Orange is definitely different but black looks wicked. And if it make a difference, nobody except bimmer nuts like us know that the 1M only comes in 3 colors and that VO is currently exclusive to the 1M. 99% of people will just think you like orange cars.

Again, all good points by everyone. I know this is a very subjective topic, and I've owned 2 black cars in the past, so I definitely like black, but I have always liked orange and have never owned an orange car. Tomorrow I will be making a definite decision as to which color I will go with, and that will also determine how soon I receive my car.

i'm gonna order VO for its uniqueness, and just by looking at the color, it pretty much represents 1M.

To me, there is one 'logical' choice, VO all the way! Show your individuality, show what this car was made to be, it's one of a kind truly unique color. Heck, you are in FL, what better place to drive a car of such vivid colors!
+1 to this post ..... BMW "individual" or run with the crowd .... at the end of the day it's a win - win with personal choice. Black is beautiful when clean but those summer daily afternoon Fla thundershowers are going to drive you crazy with water spots

Here is the reality: ideally orange would be my first choice. Now being #3 at the dealer where I could get an orange car, I may never get to see the car considering how crazy the allocation process has been. At this point, I'm almost seeing it as: either black, or maybe no 1m at all. Ya follow?!? So i don't want to end up empty handed at the end or waiting too long.
? Perhaps the best path is to buy the black and keep your spot a the 2nd dealer and then buy that as well (if you don't love the black) ..... I am sure there will be those that can help you get back to "one" M based on the interest in this car!

I would just contact the sales manager at the dealer you are #3 at and see if he indeed will be receiving at least 3 allocations. It may take some prodding, but you should be able to find out. Check out the recent article over at bimmer file concerning allocations. The sales managers at each dealership should be able to tell you how many cars they will receive and what month they will be built in, as the schedule is pretty much cut and dry. If you discover that the dealer will receive at least 3 cars, then you should wait, since it seems to me that your heart is set on the VO. If you wind up getting black when you actually wanted VO, then you will always regret your decision. Trust me, I know from experience as I have actually purchased a car in one color only to wish that I had got it in a different color.

I did. Man, I've talked to everyone and their mothers lol it all boils down to this: between no car at all and black I'll be extremely happy with black. Between black and orange I obviously prefer the orange; however, I love both colors.

Right now the dealer where I'm #3 is doing some heavy research for me. The dealer with the black one already has my name on it and car is underway. I will know for sure tomorrow morning what's going to happen at latest.

I agree that between black and no car at all I would definitely take black. Hope everything works out for you.

VO, black is too stealthy, these are the two opposites. VO stands out black hides it. Depends on the type of person you are.

orange. no question. black looks too plain, and is also a bitch to keep swirl free. the orange is timeless. i love white cars, but would do orange without hesitation.

I'd have the black one. Maybe bevcause I always like black cars but also because the orange is the release colour and most demo cars could end up being orange -> common.

[QUOTE=formula M;9332042]It comes down to subtlty...

If ur demeanor is low key and don't want to be noticed, then BSM is paramount. Otherwise, police and everyone else will notice your dashing orange BMW M.

White, shows off enough of the car, but it's not ostentatious, nor flamboyant. Subtle, with with presence.

+1 sadly enough can't afford a livier color (gossip you know)
