Same here! Makes sense what he says though, that for most people the RS3 will be the better car since it's far easier to drive faster and way more practicality. However, as far as I'm concerned, screw that!

haha, the word 'practical' only came up once when i placed my order and that was when I chose the colour...AW... other than that, my only consideration involved three letters.... F..U..N...

Pretty fair review it seems. If you need a car that's a super-fast everyday proposition the RS3 is unlikely to dissapoint. For me, I don't need a car that has any chance of making good progress in snow or ice (I'm lucky enough to have the Land Rover Defender for that), or a car that is designed for lazy cruising (we have the Merc E-Class cabriolet for that), so I want a car I can really engage with and really have fun with. Quattro and automatic transmission rob the RS3 of that for me. If I had to have just one car, for all seasons and all occasions, the RS3 would be on my list, but I don't, so for me the 1M is perfect

SWMBO drives a new Freelander, which to be fair, is not too bad.
For anyone going from a 4x4 to the 1M, I bet the first corner will have us needing 2-3 goes at the apex. Everything I hear suggests the 1M steering's is SHARP! |

I'm not going from a 4x4 to a 1M luckily. I'm not sure I could give up the V8 rumble of my Landy!

Agreed, review was fairly balanced. And reason why it had similarities with the US Automobile mag (e.g. side wipers reference), it was because...it was reviewed by the same journalist (Georg Kacher, which you see in the pic).
The RS 3 is probably a more relevant competitor than the TT RS, although both are not necessarily apples to apples (hatch vs. couple, AWD vs. RWD, manual vs. DSG with LC, etc.) But we all know the 1///M doesn't have a 'true' evil twin, cars like the Golf/Scirocco R, Megane R, Focus RS, Astra OPC, TTRS/RS 3 et all all have some aspects that just truly offer a direct 1-1 comparable to the 1 ///M. Hence why I think it is special. I think the coverage was unbiased and true. For daily duties (especially in 4-season climates), the RS 3 wins hands down. But as the story said, the 1///M distinguishes the men from the boys, so you determine which league you want to me in
