So how does that compare to a 135i that C&D tested?

If true, not much faster than 135i (0.1s).

I just looked up some comparison numbers on caranddriver.com...

2011 135i (N55 engine) goes 0-60 in 4.6s, 1/4 in 13.2

The Z4 35is goes 0-60 in 4.4, 1/4 in 13.0

As far as braking distance, the 2009 135i stopped in 158 feet.

I think it's the 0.97g skid pad number that's going to make the 1M special. Not sure where the 135i or Z4 35is are in comparison.

How does C&D even have a car to test?

here's a link to the full pdf magazine, which i couldn't find on new's shelves yet. compared to the tt rs and the ipl infiniti, it's toted as "the clear winner." can't wait to have 'er in my garage. http://www.filesonic.com/file/350693...er_2011-05.pdf

Wow..TTRS 0-60 3.6, 1/4 12.1 @ 113 mph.

That's pretty damn good for an as tested price of $66k.

How can the TT-RS have such lofty acceleration numbers and get defeated by the 1M?

3.6 really is insanely fast... though it is $66 grand.

I don't believe those numbers...

Must be a typo...everywhere I have read it says 4.6...and a 12.1 1/4 time is absurd...lol

i don't have a subscription either. go to the slow free download button on the right. you have to wait approx 20 sec and a button pops up to download. it's worth the effort for the pics and the full write up.

yes, the tt rs has impressive numbers. it sounds amazing, but it also sounds like the first gen gtr: disgustingly fast, but too easy and uninvolved. the magazine doesn't do a wonderful job of selling their 1m choice, but they argue that it's better balanced and more involved. my interpretation is that they think it's more pure; more like the new gtr. they also argue that it's amazing at everything and an everyday driver, unlike the tt-rs, which doesn't have the same weight distribution and will be taxing as a daily driver.

maybe it's a ringer. they do address that acceleration time directly, stating that you have to hold on for dear life when accelerating, as compared with the 1m and the ipl. that would be the power of an awd launch.

I never trust the numbers from american rags. They get a 1ft rollout and that skews the numbers like crazy.

the other thing that watered down their review of the tt-rs is the reality that north america won't see the dct, and they predict to lose 1 sec off the 0-60 time. seems a bit conservative. regardless, i'm happy to keep my 1m, even if the rs3 performs similarly to the tt-rs.

Good read, although I figured the 1M would have been about a tenth or two quicker to 60 and in the quarter.
