I would have gone with the 6 speed....not that there's anything wrong with the step.....its just not as much fun. But dont let me influence your decision. Test drive them both, and then decide.

It depends on alot of things. Who else will be driving the car, what's the driving environment like on a day to day basis, among others. My wife can't drive a standard so I chose the auto. People who encounter alot of stop and go traffic on a regular basis tend to chose autos because they're perceived to be "less work" for a driver. You have to chose what's best for your personal situation.

i dono, i just got rid of my m3 smg. and let me tell you smg was really nice, i mean its not hard to use at all, it has a nice gearbox and everything. But what i liked was it had a lot of manual in it. i mean same manual gear box just no clutch. I think that manual i just better in the 330 because its not hard to get used to and its just a lot of fun. Especailly since there is bluetooth available so you dont need your hands and it keeps you focused on the road.

my lifelong motto is 'manual or nothing!' -steptronic sucks for me- could not appreciate the engine braking and the cornering effect with downshifting. the biggest , annoying prob with my e46 auto was the long, long time, it took to upshift to higher gear in the morning in auto mode. had to change it manually. defeats purpose of auto box. the other turn off, is stepping brake continously at the red traffic lights, much prefer leaving in neutral and pulling handbrake.when it comes to changing gears, i am 100 % pro DIY!

You want a speedy car where you can drive fast, get an Sti or Evo. BMWs are for cruising in confort more than anything so the step would be a more logical choice.

don't agree with aem completely, no doubt bmws are for cruising in comfort but one can also do so in a manual car. bottom line, unless u want to give your gear- change hand a break, then get step. i cope with a manual gear stick even in the hustle and bustle of singapore traffic. no probs at all. a step would put me to sleep!
