Thumbs up New member, test drove 135! (I think I'm in love!)

Hey folks, my name is Albert and I've been lurking on 1addicts for a couple of months now. Ever since i heard the news of the 1 coupe coming to the US, i've been VERY interested in the car.

The car:
The car was located at Irvine BMW in South Orange County. Black Sapphire on Coral Red, Sport/Premium/Cold Weather/ Steptronic auto w/ paddle shifters (i wish it had a 3rd pedal ). The car was beautiful! i have to admit, i was a bit skeptical about the looks at first, but seeing the car in real life is a different story. There's something eye catching about the car; there was an ILB E60 M5 in the showroom that i looked at (I'm an M5 fanatic) but i kept catching myself staring back at the 1... the only cosmetic complaint i have about the car was that the rear end was just a tad bit odd, but i think its nothing i couldn't get used to, the front end on the other hand is GORGEOUS

Interior: fit and finish in general was pretty good, i only found 1 flaw with the center trim piece on the dash, but it wasn't too big of a deal.. sport seats are SUPER comfy (and i'm a pretty big guy: 6' 275lbs). the back seat was basically useless with an average sized driver and passenger, but hey, who wants a full backseat anyways, it IS the ultimate driving machine! :roundel:

The test drive:
the car drives like A DREAM! the power on the 135 is so linear, gobs of torque throughout in the power band, the only time i felt a little fade was just before red line. The Step auto with the paddle shifters is a great tranny, upshifts/downshifts are pretty precise, tranny felt very solid. The best part of the drive was the feelt i got from the car.
my sales rep is a BMW enthusiast himself, so he let me open up the taps on the 135 a bit and all i can say is WOW. the car is definitely refined, but not disconnected. i had driven an E92 335i auto w/ paddle shifters and sport package about 10 minutes before the 135 and its a completely different experience. the 335 feels too heavy, almost not BMW enough (sorry E90/E92 guys and girls), but the 135 on the other hand felt totally alive, the car was just screaming to be driven, and driven hard...

i really wanted to see what the E-Diff hype was all about, but i didn't want to take advantage of my cool sales rep and power slide the car, that would've left a bad impression

if you folks have any questions about the car or anything, please feel free to ask!

PS: i was planning on snapping some pics but i forgot my camera!

several people have said the 335 "feels" faster in a straight line. you say the 135 felt more "alive." Which felt like more of a kick in the ass? Did the 335 also die out closer to redline?

To me the 135 actually felt faster in a straight line. steering and road feel the 135 takes the cake for sure. and the 1 also had more of a "throw me back in my seat feel to it" compared to the 335 if thats what you mean by "kick in the ass". and i did notice the E92 kind of "lose its oomph" sooner than the 1 did higher in the power band.

I think it was a result of the different gear ratios on the autos between the e90/92 and the 135.

I just went to the dealer by me and they had a black 135i auto with red interior, sport pkg. premium, etc. $42,500 MSRP. My saleslady asked if I wanted to drive it, I said NO. Just sat in it and loved the Coral int. The black with Coral was beautiful, tires were all dressed, boy it was HOT. But Alpine White is what I will get 100%. Maybe with Coral.
