Yessir, its a two piece setup. Once the assembly is out, just undo the couple tabs and they separate.

Bumping this up to say thanks and pay it forward with a couple tips now that I did this install.

First, here is the link to the pick set I bought at Home Depot for less than $5, actually found it by accident while I was shopping for a set of Torx drivers.

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-Pre...004H/204314893

(The 45 degree pick came in handy for picking tiny rocks out of my radiator and mending bent fins while I had the grills out, because I'm OCD like that )

Lastly, regarding the rubber weather strip that goes along the top; you actually don't have to remove it completely. You only need to lift off the two ends that go over the headlights, you can leave the middle section on the bumper trim. This is handy since you wont have to worry about lining it up perfectly again when placing it back on the bumper trim if you removed it completely.

Hope this helps

Great writup, had them removed in 10 minutes.
I used one of those hook-dental picks from Walgreens to get the lower clips out..

Just an update to those thinking of changing out the Kidney Grills. Swapped out both the OEM grills on a 2012 135i by pulling on the slats close to the headlights first and then the middle and the side close to the center Roundel and the grills came right out. Was very easy. New ones snapped back in with ease.

Just fitted mine no problem thanks to this guide! Oh and I couldn't find a right angle tool anywhere, and didn't want to wait to get it delivered so what worked for me was putting the flat head in the same bit and rotating it which made it lift up, definitely not the best way but it worked and honesty I didn't think it would snap or anything, felt safe to do it.

Thanks again for the guide!

So I ran over a curb, and my kidney grills popped out. One shattered, so ordered some new ones. SO, passenger grill pops right in, starting the drivers side grill, and there is a plug / connector dangling in front of the radiator. No codes or anything, but does anyone know what this connector is for? The dealer wasn't helpful. Looks like stock wiring, but weird it's just dangling there.

I'm wondering if I ripped off a sensor or something?

Thanks, - Eric

OK, looked at it again, and the connector clips / slides on the the center post between the kidneys, if that helps.

Just installed these. For me easiest way was to undo 4 bumper cover retaining bolts on top and using a long flat screw driver to push three top tabs and one side tab. And they came out easy.

I failed using a pick tool trying to release bottom ones as the first go around.
