Parking safely in NYC?
Hey NYC guys, headed your way the next 2 weekends and looking for a safe place to park my 1er. Any suggestions for garages downtown? I'll be midtown around 50th and 3rd but location isn't too important as long as I can have piece of mind over the weekend. Would love any place where I don't have to leave my keys with the attendant...Any input appreciated! Thanks

I've been looking for the coveted self parking in NYC that's near me for years. You may have luck at a lincoln center garage around 62nd-64th (forgot the exact entrance street #) and amsterdam ave. There was a self park garage there when I checked a while back. The spaces are tight and the price was insane for monthly parking so I never went back again. The day rate won't be much better. Buy a Bumper Bully and that will help the parking fools. I wish there was a button I can press that will govern the RPM and MPH so they won't race around the garage with my bimmer. If you do leave it with an attendant do a very thorough walk around and note anything on your car, even the rims. I currently park at 57 st garage between west side highway and 11th ave. Tip well at drop off, ask them to take it easy on your and actually wait to watch them drive away. I've noticed if you have a nice car the attendants will wait for you to leave so they can play around with your car. If you have a M or AMG I've seen them sit there and rev the engine, pop the hood etc. Its disgusting! My favorite is when the NYPD left a unmarked car there and they were playing with the siren and bull horn. Good luck and don't leave anything in your car.

I've had decent luck in the past but that was a year ago. I always leave the attendant $20 when I get there but I've only once been allowed to take my keys...problem is I always forget which garage it was and they all look the same. Thanks for the tips though

It's out of the way, but very safe and very cheap. Park at the Ramsey Route 17 parking garage in Ramsey, NJ, and take the train in (www.njtransit.com for details). It's a very well run garage; I keep my crx in there in the wintertime. Parking is $6/day weekdays, $2/day weekends, it's self parking, the spots are wide, and the train's about an hour to Penn Station. Also, no worries about NYC roads.
If you're very paranoid, it's probably your best bet. If you HAVE to park in the city, the garage that you basically run right into after you enter the City from Lincoln Tunnel is pretty decent. |

Don't...
Park in NJ and take a bus. There is a great park and ride in Union City right before 495 where for $13 you can park all day and round-trip bus into NYC Port Authority right in Time Square.

park in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. cheaper, safer, cleaner, and 1 stop on the L train to get into manhattan. You won't regret it....plus you'll find some kick ass food in the neighbourhood

Honestly it isn't too far... you can take the train by my house to the ferry right into downtown, total trip should take like 1:15 max. it is 100% free the entire way... that 1:15 includes the ferry ride thru the harbor past the statue of liberty...

I slap on my bumperguard every time I park in NYC, street or valet. I've seen valets park by feel many a times. Ugly but it takes 1 min to remove and it's effective.
