Adelaide 2005 was one of the hardest hits I've ever seen and it is a testament to the safety of cages that this smash was walked away from with relatively minor injuries.

Any lasting effects?

Some additional photos of the joins for you, one internal and other looking down on the joint between roof panel and frame going between a pillar to c pillar. The screw hole section is for roof rack mounts. On the lips were the glass will cover you can see the rivot points, no photo but can post one if you like.
Considering some (non accident related) roof work myself, so thx for posting!

Are the rivots, you are mentioning these mechanical fasteners applied with a sort of pier, that sheers of the application rod? (ie not spotwelded?). Would indeed be interested to see one or more rivot point(s) in detail.

Was the stock roof only glued or also with welds or rivots? How about the new roof is that glued only or glue and rivots?

For strength reasons I would expect that generally spot welds are preferable, (certainly for the beams) but in your case the cage is probably all the strength you ever need, so wondering if the choices made by your body shop can be transferred to a general 'no cage' situation?

They are mechanical rivots. The factory roof uses the same system, glue and rivots. A photo of a rivot. Approx 6 along front and back.

Coming along nicely.

Is that a one off PWR FMIC, or production version?

Brake pedal went to the floor at 204km/h, some small particals in fluid stopped the master cylinder seal sealing in bore and the redundancy had the same issue, sheer bad luck. We changed the way we bled the brakes to stop this happening again.
Hit wall at 180km/h. We still have the car and raced it for years afterwards, same chassis and engine as well.
New cage built by the same man who built this cage, life saver.

Must have been an eye widening and sphinter tightening moment.

Do you have a date to start track testing the 1M?

Does Bruce still race or has he mothballed his helmet?

Holy cow dude, that was a massive hit. Looks like the front clip of the car hitting first, instead of the door first, may have also assisted in saving your life. Not to mention, that was one springy wall. Glad you were alright.

We plan on racing it for the first time at QR Aug 10-12. The series has 2 x 200km races, one on Saturday night and the other Sunday evening. Hopefully we'll test at Lakeside or Morgan Park the week before, if not in practice at QR.

Bruce will never put the helmut in mothballs, he wants to drive the MINI Challenge car I've got.

The build continues

The engine has gone in and nearly fully plumbed. Now we need to start on the wiring loom.
We've also received our first tyres to try, Yokohama A050 fitted up on our black rims.

Awesome stuff Waldo, can't wait for more updates.

Oh yeh, do you think the rear parking sensors will come in handy when pulling up on the grid? Comfort access may come in handy too when you are wearing racing gloves.

You did pick the best colour for the car too, AW rules

Awesome thread. Thanks for posting. In the picture below you can see the charge pipe for the rear turbo has a pretty big kink in it, i'm guessing to avoid an interference with something, possibly the frame rail? Anyone know what it's avoiding?

Since it's a right hand drive car I am going to guess that it is for steering shaft clearance.

Good eye. That's likely the case.

It is for clearance for the steering column. Now that we have put the engine and all componenets in we will check the space and may and try to fit the LHD part for better performance.
