canadian N54 fuel pump recall
I got an official recall for the N54 in the mail from BMW Canada Friday. It is called "BMW voluntary emissions recall campaign N54 fuel pump". They word it a little funny...they say it is more an emmisions issue. However, it does say that a failure of the fuel pump results in long cranking times and reduced performance etc...etc.... It says BMW canada will inspect and replace the high pressure fuel pump including the low fuel sensor and/or reprgram your engine control unit.

I went in for the software update a few weeks before xmas.. then I my car lost power 2 days after getting it back (on my other thread about my window).. went in.. they changed my HFPF on the 28th of December.. feels alot better (smoother however I was driving a dodge caliber then a 323i for 2-3 weeks so it might not be a fair comparison.... quick starts.. I have not put in my JB3 yet as its winter and no point.. not sure if it is the 446 pump as I am to lazy to check my invoice (dunno where I put it)

Had the recall done today. Got the 446 pump but strange thing is... I don't think they did the software tho since all my radio station and setting retained... I also had an update done back in September.. car felt smoother/better but it maybe just due to clearing the adaptation

nice ronster, my car went into limp mode last night on the highway and i got a 29dc code so looks like my pump's on it's way out. sucks the car was shuddering under acceleration and esp during low rpms. had to exit the 401 on avenue find a spot to park and restart. luckily had the laptop handy so was able to read the code. car has gone to the shop for body repair and ill see if the pump acts up again once i get her back.
i just got a software update the other day but my radio stations stayed the same, have had 2 or 3 updates and the stations have been the same

Got the recall letter as well.
So no one has yet to notice a dip in power from the new programming? I've read some of our US counterparts have had their engines toned-down. That would drive me crazy. |

Sure was scary I deleted the code in a hurry though so will have to wait for it to show up again to dealer it.

I called in for a service appt for 24k oil change and they told me I have 2 recalls outstanding. 1 is the seat belt thing, the other is 'programming'.
Is the programming basically the fuel pump recall? I really rather not do the recall unless they are going to change me to 446... especially when even the seat belt recall is constantly rumored to be an interior destroyer... |

Brought my car in for the recall and got it back 1 1/2 days later. I didn't notice any drop in power but what I did notice was better fuel mileage and smoother idle. Service was excellent.

933 is the latest hpfp? I had my recall done last month and got the 446, which I thought was the best one to get?
I also noticed very unsmooth gear changes now (I got automatic). It feels like I'm in a manual. Every time it shifts up a gear, I can feel a jerk, and it definitely wasn't like this before. This is on the standard Drive mode. |

Looks like 446 hpfp is for recall (replacement for working pump) whereas 933 is for warranty (replacement for dead pump)...
