It would profoundly affect the way I perceive BMW. They should make as many cars per year at least as many as the E30 M3 which is what they are trying to equate this to. For North America, that was 5300 models in 3 years, or about 1800 per year.
500 units for the US, we don't know what others get.

if it is really 500 cars, although I can get 1 from the dealership I purchased my cars from, I will pass. Not worth the effort and premium pay that it will come with.

SCOTT rumor?

Utterly horrible. As small as a detail as that may seem, it completely shatters my "Yes, real brake ducts!!!!!!"-moment when I first saw the cover come off.

Chances are that this is a "show" prototype. Basically what the car will look like. I sincerely doubt that they would produce a car that had blacked out non-fuctional intakes.

How would air hitting the outside side of the tire qualify as brake ducts? Also that big hole closer to the center is the brake duct and it is functional

Yea, lots of teasing, but final product is months away.

+1 it's a tease to stir up discussion. Enough to raise questions and passions, and not enough to say "this is the final car.". Marketing

They aren't intakes. A case of semantics, I suppose. I would call them air vents. The large cooling intakes are still there. If the vents were open, they would vent air to the front tires. Possibly creating brake cooling. Possibly.

what you can't see is that they may channel into a smaller tube that turns out at the back of the brake rotors.

Hope they turn out to be functional whatever-ducts on the final car. I just hate faux inlets and outlets. Look at an IS-F up close.....

BMW have never produced a car with fake vents. Relax. Just like they don't build FWD BMWs

I believe as was pointed out in the OP, the left side vent you can see there flows back to where the new oil cooler sits, so perhaps the car has 2 identical oil coolers each in front of the front tires and cooled by air from those front black ducts.

If thats the case, then awesome

Bring back the lost spirit of BMW -can be seen at the below video- with this new car, I will any price.

And even go beyond, Enter 2012 DTM Season with 1M, rather than M3 if you believe this is the car..

Hopefully, you are being sarcastic, because One of the air intakes on the M3's hood is a dummy intake. It's there for symmetry and aesthetic purposes. So, don't put it past BMW to have fake intakes (vents, slats, non-fuctional diffuser, etc), especially if they don't have true quad exhausts...

And what would be the engine in the 1M DTM car? If I'm not correct, they have to be "stock cars" with V8s, and the models have to have had V8s in them, or something. I'm not familiar with DTM rules, but I remember how BMW and Porsche went down in a fight about how the V8 M3 GTRs were not "production based" models, since the production M3 had a inline 6, not a V8...

The new rule set allows forced induction, this is why BMW is back in the game.

Which means the Audi boys just might be the favorites, of the big three, they are the kings of FI motors, followed by Mercedes

It's a prototype and I can only suspect the final product will have functional vents.

Since they make this car to show the world what a 1 M Coupe will look like, I can only suspect that the final product will be like this.

There is no evidence to suggest they will change it. We can suspect that BMW can or will change any and everything. I can only assume that the front spoiler was made this way for a reason, that it was made to look this way due to its style. Perhaps the spoiler shakes when openings are cut into it. We can surmise all day long.

We will all have to wait to see when the car is actually delivered I suppose.

I don't think there's an option other than to have fully functional venting, so the whole discussion above is probably moot.
