Eisenmann Exhaust Problem

I attempted to go to a muffler shop to get my eisenmann installed, but the mechanic refused to install it. He alerted me to the fact that the eisenman exhaust was not compatiable with my 330i E90. My 330i E90's stock exhaust comes with a valve control system on the longer pipe, but the eisenmann exhaust did not come with the same valve control system. He then went on to state that the computer system could be out of wack since the valve control would not be connected to anything. But, on the eisenmann website it shows the exhaust with the valve on it.

The First image is the exhaust that I recieved through the mail.

The Second image is on the eisenhaus/eisenmann website.

Yeah, all you do is remove the vacuum line off the OEM exhaust and plug it with something, like a golf tee. Then tie it up into the bumper/whatever. Wont set off any codes, etc.

One of two things happened. Check your packing slip and see if they sent you the wrong exhaust. its either that or you ordered the wrong one. Either way it shouldn't be a big deal, call them on Monday and they should be able to exchange it for you. When you get the right one and its installed post up some pictures.

BTW-your labels are wrong on your pictures.

It says on the reverse side that it is suppose to be for the 330i/325i along with the serial number.

It is a common free mod to disconnect the hose. I did it to may e46 330 and will do it when I get my e90. The flap stays closed at lower RPM's. When you deactivate it, the sound is deeper/louder at idle and low speeds. It opens at higher RPM's to reduce backpressure so power is not reduced. The vehicle electronics don't know if it is connected or not.

Just make sure not to create a vacuum leak -- so seal up the hose end tightly by (typically) using a golf tee with a tie-strap tight around the end of the hose, then maybe even a wrap of tape over that. Strap the end of the hose up out of the way and you're all set to go.

Aftermarket exhausts are trying to give a better sound at all RPM's (and don't have to meet government imposed sound regulation), so there is no reason for them to add a valve that lowers the sound level and increases power robbing backpressure.

Ok now I understand the entire theory surrounding this. At first I thought they sent me the wrong exhaust since it didn't have the valve control system. I am paranoid to bring it to a thrid party muffler shop. I will take it to my dealership to install it on monday.

Good luck -- that's a nice looking muffler and I know it will sound great.

I bet in Europe there may be noise regulations even for aftermarket parts so they probably offer the version with the valve, but since it is not necessary/desired here they can leave it off.

i know this may be alittle off topic but will some dealers actually install aftermarket parts for you??? (i.e exhaust, intake...) Cause i mean your basically asking them "hey can you void my warranty on my exhaust".
only reason im asking is cause if i bought a 40g+ car and i had a exhaust system that was still considered pretty new, i wouldnt want some muffler shop that might not be familiar with it to try to instal it. i would rather have the dealer whos experienced with the to do it for me.

Seriously, an exhaust is not anything hi-tech that definitely requires going to a dealer to have it installed. I've installed exhausts myself and have had meineke do one for me too. But whatever makes you sleep better at night.

Yeah, as posted, its referred to as the "golf-tee" mod in the E46 world. The flap stays closed at low rpms/load to keep the engine quieter, it opens when you get on it. Basically a noise thing; the 325s dont even have the valve.

Go back to the shop, plug that line up and call it a day. I have done this on my E36 and E46.

Funny you mention this, I came from the third party place today and this is what their lift did to the bottom of my car.

OMG! I'm sorry that happened to you. I know your taking it back to the shop and have them pay you for the damage right?

Did they even install the exhaust?

Nope the owner refuses to pay for it. Looks we have a legal problem. No they did not install the exhaust. I am taking it to my dealership on monday for the install. I am hoping the damage doesn't require the side skirt to be replaced.

Wow they refuse to take responsibility for it? How could that be, why did they even lift your car in the first place, they did not install the exhaust. That sucks. You should try to take some legal action, or at least report them to the BBB.
