CF Spoiler Install Video

Time for me to install my spoiler. I've had this sucker since october waiting to be installed lol. Now that I just did my custom grills, this will really set off the car. I just need the GAS front lip spoiler and rear diffuser.

i was planning on doing my spoiler this weekend, but hadn't heard about using a water/alcohol mixture, or just water, before placing the spoiler with the 3M tape. which is better to spray down, and is it just so you have some play with it before it sticks for good?

Yep. I use soap/water in a spray bottle n just mist the place up. Don't forget to clean it thoroughly beforehand!

I thought I'd post pics of my spoiler in prep. The one from the vid is a bit rough. I found it easiest (and cleaner) to use the 3m as if I were pinstriping the back of the spoiler. I had brand new (super sharp) razor blades that I used to cut even and precise. The install was flawless and easy (except for taking all of the old tape off of the trunk). By the way, I used Tarminator to take off the old residual tape. Spray it and leave it on for a few minutes and it turned the tape to jelly. I found it much more helpful than the Goo Gone (and yes, it's safe on paint). I thoroughly cleaned the whole car after all this and used some spray carnuba wax on the whole trunk. I sprayed the trunk and spoiler with a mix of rubbing alchol and water, then I lined the spoiler up and kept pressing down from end to end using a microfiber cloth. The car looks amazing with this simple enhancment and I recommend this to everyone. Pics pre installed (raining out so I don't have installed pics yet):

Awsome Job!! Where did you buy the Tarminator? I'll have a new car soon and I might update the video. Also, for those who believe the tape is a bad way to go....... your wrong. I had one hell of a time removing my CF spoiler off my old car before I sold it. The Tape holds, and holds strong.

Yeah, the bond is REALLY good. Thanks for starting this John. I love Tarminator. Gets rid of almost any crap gunk you can think of. And it's safe on the paint.

How long do you guys leave the tarminator on for? I just sprayed it... there was a lot of residue from the existing tape... do you just use your hand to rub it off?

Figured it out... wow even with tarminator it takes some time to get all that adhensive off

Hey guys I forgot to mention, when you are trying to get the tape residue off with the tarminator, use a plastic ruler wrapped in a microfiber cloth/towel. This helped me scrape off the residue while the tarminator breaks down the tape and sped up the process greatly. It doesn't harm the car whatsoever so don't worry (trust me I inspected thoroughly). Plus, the tarminator will double as a lubricant.

Also, before you spray the Tarminator, if you have a good round chunk of old adhesive you can use that to pull off the remaining adhesive from the trunk.

Also, expect your thumb to be a little sore after adhesive removal.

Hey John... my end tip wont stay down... any suggestion? When I did I waited 24 hours (but it was fairly cold outside). Looks like I need to remove the spoiler AGAIN and re-tape the sucker. I taped the end exactly like you did.... any recommendation?

Your going to have to re-tape it. I would remove it ASAP. The longer it sets on the car, the harder it is to remove.

I like to use some soap and water slightly misted on the trunk when I place the spoiler on, this allows it to be adjusted. Then I will lift it and spray some alcohol/water mix, and press it firmly.

do you have any pictures of the first time you installed it and the corner didnt stick, and the correct taping?

I'll have to search for pics. You'll have to cut some tape to fit the corner angle. Also, ensure you don't have tape over lapping, you want the tape to be level when you put it on the car. I re-installed my spoiler on my new car and I did not have any issues with the corners.

looks good man, post up those pics when you find them, so basically follow Upgrade+ pictures when installing it, is the bond really strong?

edit: i watched the video again, and in the end when the soap and water mixture is applied to the trunk and spoiler and then you place it down, when and how do you lift it up again and put the water and alcohol so that it does not change position from the fitment?

Thank you for the DIY, I would have been lost without it.

Main points that helped me was how to properly apply the 3M tape to the bottom and ends of the spoiler and to also use the water/alcohol combo to allow you to position the spoiler.
