Hello from the Netherlands

Hello everybody,

My name is Frank. I live in the Netherlands and soon hope to be the owner of a 1M in VO or AW.

A little history:
I started my "car life" with Honda's, and up to now I never owned anything else but Honda's. But, a little while ago, it was time to get a new car. Since Honda (in my opinion) doesn't make a car that gets me going anymore it was time to go and look for something else.
After a pretty long search I ended up at BMW. It was clear that my new car had to be an M-version. After having seen the 1-coupe (not the M) driving around I started falling in love.
Made a test drive in a 135i and knew this type of car was the one.
A few days ago I got to drive a AW 1M....and man....do I love it.
Not only due to the power and driveability, I really love the looks of the car.
So, the journey started. All 4 Honda's have to be sold, but this mainly due to the fact that I work around 12-14 hrs a day. This takes up so much time, I don't get to spend time at the old hobby.
At the moment 2 of them are gone....2 to go.
The Integra type R is still here and so is the civic vtec......I hope to get a 1M somewhere next year, around May.
Fortunatly, there are "plenty" on sale here. For example, in Germany more than 30 are for sale at this moment, and in the Netherlands there are now 2 for sale.

Time to stop talking.....here are some pics (sorry for it being Honda's.... )

Integra type R (DC2)
A front wheel driven car with a 1.8 litre N/A DOHC VTEC engine revving up to 8750 rpm. It was considered to be the best front wheel drive car ever made....at least according to several magazines. Anyway, I love the high revving engine....but it has to go.

Civic vtec (ee9)
Said to be the mother of all DOHC VTEC engines.
This one I restored back to OEM. It was very nice to do and I love the old style of driving. A little 1.6 litre DOHC VTEC engine delivering 150 HP. Good old skool driving.

Civic VTi (EK4)
Also a 1.6 litre DOHC VTEC engine, but with 160 HP. This one has been sold a few days ago.

Besides this I build a track civic. Got a roll cage, another engine, complete performance upgrade and so on.
Had a lot of fun with it on the track. Due to it being a pretty light car with a 220 HP engine it got around fine. It is now sold but still going around the track with it's new owner.

Anyway.....I hope time flies by and May will come soon.
Here's a link to the AW 1M that a made a test drive in.

See you around!

Hi Frank,

welcome, and good choice on your next car, do post some pics and your impressions of your own 1M.

Also recommend the Belgium 1M thread for meets and such: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=528379

(What device did your test car have on the roof console?)

Aangenaam kennis te maken!

Don't sell the Type-R Acura! My friend here has one and it will only be more desirable like the 1M.

Welcome to the 1M club!

Welcome to the 1M club!

Bedankt. Thnx.

I'm not really eager selling the R....but there is just no more room for her.

Welcome. One more time: reconsider selling the Integra R, would be a great alternative in terms of driving dynamics to 1M, a very capable fwd little car with a motorbike type of revving engine vs. rwd high torque turbo engine. Always been a fan of S2000 and before that the CR-X when I was much younger, Integra R belongs there too. I believe Honda has the most reliable engines and sweetest gear boxes in the industry. You will like the 1M...a lot.

Welcome! The first "sports car" I owned was an electron blue '99 Civic Si. I ended up adding a Jackson Racing supercharger and Mugen exhaust among other things. Loved that car! It was my third Civic, and my wife also had a Civic, then an Accord during that time. We were a Honda family!

I then moved on to a 2005 WRX STi, the first car I ever went to the track with. Next up was an RX-8, which served me well until I traded it toward the 1M. If I could go back and keep just ONE of the prior cars, it would be the RX-8 . . . . I miss the light weight and screaming rotary sound . . . but it is nice to have a little torque now!

I know what you mean. 2 Different cars with both their own qualities.
Anyway, I've got a few months left

Good to hear that you also came from a Honda background, and love the 1M.
Here, in the Netherlands, sadly we don't have the civic Si, at least not that particular model. We got a few driving around, but all are imported.
When i drove a crx vtec I also considered installing the JRSC. But, it was to expensive for me then.....still being a student.

Do you still go to the circuit (with the 1M?)

Hello eeghie,

Due to the fact that I'm fairly new in the Bimmer-world I can't give a good review, but this is the forum I visit:

http://www.bimmerportal.nl/

I think Robin is able to maybe tell you more!

So far I have only autocrossed the 1M, which has been great. I am building a house right now, so cash and free time have all been consumed. Next year I will make it to the track, and will have a much easier time prepping the car since my new garage has a lift.

Greetings from Maastricht,

I don't intend to hijack this thread but I can not send private messages yet. I live in Maastricht and have shipped my US Spec N54 powered 535i here. Are there any car meets in Limburg or a good shop that knows the N54 well?

If you want to go OEM, then go to Rijswijk.
These guys are very good with BMW!
