hey andy, you offered, it was my fault to not take you up on it. i was just too tired at the end of the day. i rushed outta there to get home to grill out ribs and then pass out watching the final episode of Lost.

i'm trying to figure out why my fronts are wearing out so much on the sidewalls, it's either
- i have to back off my horrendous driving technique of plowing through corners so much and actually carve or
- add even more air to the fronts, which cannot be right, or
- turn the wheel less
- all of the above.

for noises, i'm resigned to pick up some Dinan plates and if i ever go coilovers that don't require the upper spring perch, put the vorshlags back on.

Another thing that might do you some good as far as your tires is a sway bar. Did any of us ride with you?

Key to better wear in these cars is to brake in a straight line, and brake hard. It's the quickest way around the course too.

What tires/size/pressure were you running? Did you bleed it thru the day?

so tell me, when you left the autox parking lot, going down the steep right hander over the huge potholes, did you get clanking on the plates?

the fronts were at 43lbs in the am after each run, but in the afternoon's heat they shot up to about 49, so i bled the fronts out to 43.

no doubt i need to learn to drive better. i try to trail brake into a lot of corners, but probably end up over-cooking most of them. i didn't see any wear like this last year (my first year) when driving my GTI on Direzzas. The GTI was a little lighter, but had smaller fronts, with no additional neg camber and it was fwd and i drove hard into corners and out of corners, plus did 7 or more events on them no problem. These Hankooks look like they are taking a serious beating on the sidewall.

i rode with Mike once and his car felt like it was gripping alot harder than mine could, plus i he rounds out his corners alot more than i do.

i could consider a sway bar, but aren't several other 1ers (mike, rachel) on pretty much stock suspension? is anyone else blowing through sidewall?

That's way too much air. Andy and I were running 36F/33R for our best runs. There was no roll over and the wearmarks were right at the indicator arrow.

^ this is true. might be a combination of going too fast into corners/overturning the wheel though as well. I was very guilty of that my first few runs until larry was like hey, brake you idiot.........then turn.

I went very slow over those bumps. my noises are not loud. kinda muffled, not sharp clanks.

my car makes even less noise now. I tightened the shit out of the upper end link nut/bolt. I had to go buy skinnier wrenches to fit in there.

I still got the slow speed noises, just less of them. I tried to use the wrong wrench to tighten the end links and I knew it, just too lazy to do anything about it until this week.
