UPDATE: 1M build thread & formal intro
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com In true Rob Dickinson fashion, I modified my 1M to fit my imagination of what the baby M should be. I suspect that most of you are already familiar with it, but who doesn't like an M car picture thread...? These are the last 5 pictures that will be taken of this 1M whilst being under my ownership. It is currently for sale in another thread, where a full build list can be found for those interested. Enjoy Photos by AK Photography And here are two interior shots from a previous shoot: __________________________________________ Original post: hello everyone ive been cruising around on this forum for some time now and never really formally introduced myself, so here it goes: ive always been an audi kinda guy and never really liked the bmw brand. however, the more i took driving seriously and pushed myself to the limits with the car, the more i realised that audis are just not real performance cars. they handle extremely safe in wet/snowy conditions, but it is exactly that, which also hinders them from being great on the track. i therefore decided to sell my audi rs3 and bought my first bmw - the 1M. from the first time i drove around in it i knew that it was a keeper. still today i smile every time i see it, sit in it and push that magical little button next to the steering wheel. it is by far the best performance car i ever owned. so now lets get to the more interesting part - the mods so far the car still 'looks' pretty stock. however the engine has a tune on it and now produces around 420 bhp. im also running a bigger intercooler, an akra evo system with DP and the performance short shift kit to round off the package. the interior is stock apart from the performance buckets... seeing that its still winter around here, i decided to get my car out of hibernation to get it ready for the meets and drives coming up in the next couple of months. the build should be completed by the end of march - depending on how long it takes for some of the parts to arrive. until then, the car is about to get a new dress. i like the white, but i wanted something different so its currently being painted. ill post more pics of the paint job by the end of next week p.s. sorry that you cant really see the akra.. i didnt have time to take new pics before sending it of to the paint shop. but stay tuned and more pics (with the akra) will follow...

I came from an Audi S3 to the 135i for similar reasons.
Love the seats. Is your front number plate right in front of your intercooler? |

Of course, although this forum is mainly flocked by BMW enthusiasts, we are a fair sport: Audi cars are great cars too - for example in the taste department, it is quite hard for BMW to beat the look 'n feel quality of an Audi interior. As you are well acquainted with Audi cars, could you give us a comparo of what you personally consider to be the pros and cons of the RS3 versus the 1M. You already pointed out some things, but it would be nice to have you shedding some extra light.

haha..almost forgot about that - thanks Quote:
thanks and yes of course: personally i think the rs3 looks incredible - even now when i see one (here they're rolling all over the place) i always find myself checking it out. compared to the 1M its just so refined inside and outside - but this is personal. fact is that the interior of the rs3 is 100% prime all the way - bmw could really improve on this point. performance-wise the rs3 could be a lot better. problem is that the power to weight ratio is all wrong. its weight (1650kg or 3640 lb) really affects the performance way too much. cornering the car just a little too fast gives you under-steer all over the place (and i'm not talking about cornering like you would on a race track). generally, as soon as you push the car just a little bit, it blocks off all attempts to have fun with it. it feels as if audi had to quickly develop an rs3, took the existing s3 and just added a bigger engine forgetting about all the rest. the brakes are appalling (front discs are the same on both sides - as in not one for each side - which massively affects the cooling). furthermore the brakes are only cooled through vents on one side and not the other and generally the entire intake system is flawed. compared to the 1M the only advantage the rs3 has in performance is its launch control. but on the other hand its an automatic (personally i'm all for a manual gearbox). in my opinion the rs3 is an extremely good daily. it easily fits 5 adults, has enough boot space for a hatchback and is very comfortable to drive around (as long as you only want to go fast on the autobahn). i see the 1M as a sports performance car and the rs3 as a daily drive hatchback with a bigger engine.

Welcome Ace11.
I had an Audi RS4 before changing to 1M. Haven't regretted a bit (but I do miss the RS4 exhaust note though). Your 1M will be so nice when all the mods are completed. Which FMIC did you change to? |
