A lot of mods don't look good. They just look different than stock.

Some mods actually make the car look better. Other mods looks like they are done only because people want to have something different than the way they get a car stock because they don't look better or worse than stock. And it costs a lot of money to do it!

I guess people just like to stand out in the crowd a little.

Thoughts?

I agree. When I buy a car I make sure I like the design. Spending a lot of time and money afterwards to modify it's look is just not something I'm interested in. But I do remember when I was younger I was more prone to do that - but not with a new car.

I feel the same way. Now that I am older I just want a few practical Items for my e90 (trunck mat, luggage net, mats, ect. One Item that I did add/change were the wheels and tires.
I replaced the 17" v-rated sp run-flats with 18" BBS LM "knock offs" and sp-spec michelin pilot sport tires. What a wonderful difference! They grip like a MF and are slightly more comfortable than the 17" run-flats. The steering is slightly lighter and I am getting 1 to 1.5 mpg better fuel economy (lowered the unsprung weight by @40lbs with the switch) this has been the best, though not inexpensive , decision I have made on any BMW that I have owned.

Rims....

No disrespect to anyone here, but I think mods like blacklines are a waste of money. The car doesn't look that different for 300 bucks.

People do what they want, thank god everyone thinks differently, or every car would be the same. Some think wheels are better, while some may like different headlights.

I had never modified any car or truck until my E90. I've put on a spoiler, an M Sport steering wheel, blacklines, and (unexciting, but oh so useful) sunglass holder. My aluminum pedals are in my garage waiting to be installed. The only other thing I want to do is have my windows tinted and then I'm done.

There's no right or wrong answer when it comes to whether to mod your car. Added performance, better looks (very subjective, of course), or even simply having a visibly non-stock vehicle are all valid reasons to mod your car.

If that's how you want to spend you money and you like your car more for it, I say go for it. If you want to keep it bone-stock then that's ok, too.

Different strokes for different folks, as they say.

That's true. It's a matter of perception.

Thoughts quite real because a 320 is a 320 with mods or factory way. Y agree but you can make one exception with schnitzer or hartge for instance or BMW INDIVIDUAL its all about mods, individual mods. Expensive ones like tuning, for what ? lol. When you are about to sell the car, the market value with or without mod is one, a little better if you have M or GPS or better wheels.

A friend of mine mods his Jetta as a form a therapy. It gives him something to do that he really enjoys - and it's probably cheaper than going to see a shrink.

Personally, I just like my car to be a little different than stock. I prefer OEM parts over after market, unless your doing a whole Hamann or Schnitzer job.

I don't think the mods I am doing are drastic.

Blacklines, spoiler and blacked out grills. They make my car look a little different, not totally different, but it's the little things that count.

So what if I spent $1000 it's a $50 000 car - and my car deserves it.
If I could have ordered blacklines from the factory I would. If I could have gotten a spoiler from the factory I would.

They not "modifications" - more like tweaking the car.

The value of modifying one's car is simply a function of the satisfaction the owner gets out of doing so. 'That said, I love my M-sport wheel and Blacklines for both their aesthetic and functional qualities.
