39 Month Lease Confirmed
Hello all,
Just received a message from my SA today. Turns out there will not be a rate drop (or so it seems), but there is now a 39 month lease option. I haven't received a quote to see how it affects things, but I'm hoping it's a slight decrease in monthly payment. Still 7.75% on this one as well.

Hmm why 39.. whats the bad thing about 36 months or 48 months? Ya I am planning on leasing it now and got my lease quotes but ya its high as hell lol..
Wanted to wait till May.. to bad no confirmation for sure if the rates will drop or not.. if not then i rather get mine like as soon as possible.. |

mmm so this came from your dealer eh?
I'd normally say it would be a tad early to know if the rates will change (emphasis on IF) after April 30th... but hey, I may just be crossing my fingers too hard... not like it matters; car is ordered and I can afford it as it is. If the rates go gown by, say, a half percent, I save 10 bucks a month, which would be what I'd be spending extra for buying premium gas hahaha.

I'd wager a strong guess as to why BMW offers a 39 month lease: it allows the individual reasonable time to have the vehicle, but still has 9 months left on the maintenance program which can be used as a selling insentive once the dealer gets the car back and tries to sell it. You can tell by the lease rates (in the case of other BMWs anyway) that BMW strongly encourages people to take the 39 month route over the 48 month one which consumes the entire maintenance program and warranty too.
Just another one of these small little tricks that doesn't make me appreciate BMW a whole lot. |

The 39 month stretch-lease usually allows for a lower over-all cost of leasing because the residual either doesn't change from 36 months or changes only a very small amount.
It's usually a pretty good option on most BMW's and Mercedes. This is actually a good option for the consumer, it's not something evil done by BMW to rape you any further.

So is the reason a 48 month lease with the same interest rate is worse than a 39 month lease only because you end up paying more overall because the risidual values don't change much betweent the terms? Does a 39 month lease only benefit you over a 48 month lease if you plan on buying it out at the end?

Just got back from the dealership...It is true, there is a 39mth lease option however it lowers the residual by 1%, so in my case 24000km/yr brings the residual down to 56%...
