18x8.5 ET 35 and 18x9.5 ET 40. Am I dreaming?

Is this setup even slightly reasonable on a 1er? I am thinking it is time for new wheels on my 2008 135i and I have found a set I am drooling over.

The front would need a spacer? That seems wrong. I thought the front wheels were like +48 factory?

I would stick with an et 50 on up in the rear. 18x9.5 et 50 you can run a 255 rear. ET 58 on up you can run a 265 in most cases.

Front stick with a 18x8.5 et 45 so you can fit a 235 up front. If anything with a 18x8.5 et 35 you will have problems sticking out too far.

Fronts:
Here is a 9.0 ET45 with a 12mm spacer, so effectively a 9.0 ET 33

Going from that above 9.0 ET33 to a 8.5 ET35 increases inside clearance on the strut by 3mm and increases outside clearance on the fender by 9mm. If you have coilovers and the spring perch is above the tire then that 8.5 +35 will bolt right on with no issues and should be fine on the fender as long as you have some camber.

Rears:
With respect to the rears, from another thread, this is a 9.5 ET50, so a full 10mm more outer fender clearance than your proposed 9.5 ET40:

I am not going to say it "cant" fit as there is a wide range in what people consider acceptable, but my definition is that you can use the proper size tire and have full range of suspension movement with NO rubbing of any sort. It is unlikely IMO that criteria will be true with an ET40.

Hope this is helpful,
Mark

You are dreaming unless you like the stanched civic look.
The fronts wouldn't be that bad but you will need 2+ camber and you could run 225/35 or perhaps 245/35 with a roll. I'd say 235 but since they typically are only in 235/40 it's just too talk.
In the rear no way. You will need like 3+ camber and could run 245s and might rub.

I'm running 35 in front and 42 in the back. Stock tires though so there is some stretch. I also run coilovers. No rubbing whatsoever.

35 in front doesn not need a spacer, unless you run coilovers and want them all the way down.

i dont understand how my vmr wheels 18x8.5 et45 FRONT can't even fit a 235
I'm running a 225 (( FLUSH FIT no room for more tire )) with a 7mm spacer for coilover perch clearance

GRK, if you perch interferes it makes sense to me. An 8.5et45 would have less and 1mm before it would hit my strut. And then with my et42s I had some fender rubbing issues when I ran 235s. There just isn't much room up there unless you get camber plates.
