Space Saver spare wheel and jack or alternatives?

I am about to get rid of the runflats.

What are the options re spare wheel, or mobility kits etc?
What do most people without runflats do?

At this stage I am looking for a Space Saver spare wheel, jack and bag for my 135i, anyone know where to get a good deal on one?

cheers

I have a phone and an RACV membership. Haven't needed to use it for tyres yet but you get 12 tows a year for free.

would be a good option, but concerned about Kerscher front lip, I doubt it'd get up the tray! Especially if i do a front tire - or is that their problem?

I run with a jack and "dogturd" plugs as well as mobility kit + NRMA membership.

First point of call is the dogturd. Jack is used to get the wheel off for better access.
Next point of call is the mobility kit if it is in a location a dog turd is not suitable
Next is NRMA for when the sidewall is FUBAR.

If it is a long trip in country NSW i'll take a full size spare (space saver if i had one)

No it's yours I think.

I don't have a front lip but there was plenty of clearance when I got towed the other week for my water pump. I have scraped on a few driveways also.

Giving RunCraps the flick

I have just been down this path. The most knowledgable 1addict contributor is Dackelone, and I tossed things around with him before acting. He has a 17" steel winter wheel and an alloy space saver, but he favours the steel wheel for reasons he can elaborate on. I have a spare M Sport wheel I can use for those long trips ... but the space it takes up and the weight is daunting.

I bought a jack/lug wrench/torque wrench/gloves system through bmw_direct's eBay store. They are first class, but only deliver to the UK. So you either set up a shipping agent, (e.g., SKYPAX) or do as I did and pick up from a UK address. I also bought a Mobility Kit out of Amazon US from a US dealer given BMW Australia's policy to gouge us. For the latter I use SHIPITO as the US agent. Make sure you spend the USD2.00 to have photos taken and then they insure the goods and distribution ... worth it.

Lastly, as I still had one near new runflat, and the others were reasonable, I sold them on eBay. The buyer was very happy. I run Yokohama ADVAN Sports 225/255 and love them. It is like I bought a new car. And before you ask, I have found 43 psi all round to be the best option.

P.S. Never, but never use plugs. Ask your favourite tyre dealer how they finish a tyre off!!

I've had to use the plugs twice in the last 15 years and never had any issues with the tyre dealer.

I know the mobility kits make a big mess inside that they hate.

Mine was adamant in telling me not to use plugs. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. The BMW goo is latex-based and water soluble ... so no issue there. The slimey goo that isn't latex coagulates in the tyre and causes balancing issues.

I've been actually looking at space savers in the past month for the car, so far it looks like its about 400-450 delivered to Perth for one. I have yet to even bother call up the local dealer based on the price differences last time I called on Injectors + associated bits.

My reason for an actual spare is we go out to the 'outback' a bit, no phone reception so a spare tyre would be much needed incase of a situation.

I just bought the space saver from Bavarian Auto, landed approx $700 with OEM Bag for trunk storage to Sydney.
More peace of mind knowing there is a spare I guess, and I rarely use the boot (trunk) anyhow

Ouch!!!!!!

If I didn't care about boot space, I'd probably consider a full sized original front rim. I do have 2 spare under the house.

What did you do for a jack? Or was it concluded?

Would 17" space saver for 3 series fit a 135i?

I was under the impression that E46's space savers were only 15 & 16in. I need a 17in for a 135i with stock brakes don't I?

cheers
