Isnt that tight of a clearance between the tire and shock tube not a good thing? You would think any kind of turning or bumps would cause rubbing against the shock

The photo's angle is misleading. It has to be taken perfectly perpendicular for you to see the clearance (I deal with this photo issue often). It's hard to take when you can't look at the view finder.

Some members have been fine even with 245's up front and no spacers. It just depends on the tire, but the space shown in that photo is plenty. There is a finger space between the tire and the strut. Same with the wheel itself. It looks like only the bead protect bulges out, and that really doesn't move under cornering loads. The sidewall of that tire will not touch the tube under cornering loads as its more then far enough away.

My setup with Pilot Super Sports , 235/40 R18 - Front strut ;

With BMW Performance suspension and factory spec'd front camber of -0.5 degrees - Less than 1/32nd inch clearance - and contact when parked facing downhill (to get a feel for how things look under braking). Not quite full lock either since I'm taking these solo.

Its too tight in my factory friendly setup

So - sadly - the 235's have to get swapped out for 225's - Which stance wise is a bit better for the car overall (slightly lower in front vs rear)

Posting also in main photo thread to help out my fellow addicts!

What is it that I'm not getting? How are other people fitting that tire in front without rubbing?

245 front, only rubbing i get is on the fenders on a large bump, very rare (slight roll and pull to finders, on stock suspension setup for now. I haven't had any issues with the strut/shock.

235/40 PS2s here - I just looked at the strut tubes on both sides - no signs of rubbing.

What 245 is that? I searched your posts, but I couldn't find it.

i don't mean to impose, and i know i've already said this in the other thread, but i really think moving down to the 225 is a mistake. just my $.02

That too much swagger, I mean stagger for good turning control.

FYI, check this post. this is another member here who mounted 255 PSS tires on the same front wheel as you with a koni strut (which has the same tire clearance as oem).

i'm still not quite sure why your tire is touching the strut and others' aren't, but a thin spacer is definitely the right solution. are you absolutely sure it's actually touching? there's no problem with the tire being insanely close to the strut, as long as it's not hitting it (much).

225/265 is too big a stagger, and you really dont need a smaller rolling diameter in the front. the 235/265 set only differs by 3 revolutions per mile front to back (819 versus 822), which is a miniscule difference of only 0.37%.

Arc 8 wheels
255/35-18 F PSS
275/35-18 R PSS
Run -2.5 deg camber front, -1.5 deg rear. Had to shave the bumper flashing in the wheel well. Now no rubbing.

No spacers up front with that 255?

No spacers. I tried 5mm, but had rubbing issues on the outside. A 3mm spacer may be perfect, but they work good enough for Laguna Seca. See below.
