The car has 12K miles and the right rear won't hold air.

I'm open to suggestions.

I kind of like the idea of the stiffer sidewall on the RF's to help protect the rims, but it seems they are so much heavier than standards.

I do plan on keeping the car for a few years.

When searching the forum it seems opinions vary.

Also, deviate from OE sizes?

I switched to the Continental Extremecontact DW (1 size bigger) and I am really happy with them. RFTs SUCK!

I have sumotomo htr 3 and the walls are pretty stiff.

Ditch those RFs and never look back...cheaper options include the v12 hankooks and the BFG kdw2s, though imo they both feel a bit soft in the sidewalls...Mich PSS are excellent, and still cheaper than replacing the oem runflats. You really cant go wrog, the stock tires are brutal.

I just got a set of Michelin PSSs this weekend and so far I like them alot!!! The ride is better way better and grip is just outstanding, I haven't had the DSC light come on yet. However I do notice that one must turn the steering wheel more to turn than before, I had heard this before from Dack.

The Hancook and Sumi are priced right and fit my useage profile, so they are near the top of my list, so are the Conti's.

I've read in other forums where the Sumi's sizing is somewhat under-sized and it was recomended to order one size wider. Anyone have any experience with this in our sizes?

Also please, even if using a different brand - increase width? I'm not tracking the car.

Pirelli PZero RunFlats have proven to be an excellent 2nd generation RFT. I put them through their paces on all road surfaces, including severe/rainy weather, and they provide superb traction and are a significant improvement in ride quality compared with the Dunlops and Bridgestone RE050's.

Our 128 (has the 261 18" 135-type staggered setup) sometimes serves as my wife's dd, so I stuck with an RFT, and honestly, the Pirellis feel pretty close to a non-RFT.

I've been through quite a few sets of different manufacturers' RFTs on my 335's, including Brigestone and Michelin, and the Pirellis on the 128 feel more like a non-RFT than the rest.

Never heard anything good about Sumis, as far as Hankook the V12s have great reviews on tirerack.com however some complain about a soft sidewall.

PSS' !!! Cheaper option would be Dunlop Star spec which i am running now. The next cheapest recommendation would be V-12's. I look forward to next season when I replace my Dunlops with PSS'.

Star Specs are actually more expensive than PSS's now, at least in 235-40-18 and 255-35-18. Check TireRack.

On my second set of Hankook V12's. No complaints. They are a great tire for the price, and perform quite well. Only think I would improve is I do wish they had a bit more grip. But that is what you pay for when you get the PSS's (but I don't think the PSS's hold up as well as the V12's, so it's always trade-offs).

The Michelin PSS tires are great. I've had them for almost 14K miles, and have nothing but great things to say. I went with 225/40ZR18 front and 255/35ZR18 on the rear. This is on 18" BMW Performance style 269 wheels.

I've always understood a stiffer sidewall transfers more energy from bumps and potholes, thereby leaving your wheels open to more chance of being bent.

The Conti Extreme Contact DWS is too soft and doesn't have much on-center feel. That's my only gripe.

I have Conti SC on a different vehicle and would like something a little stickier for this car.

It seems everyone always is happy w/ the PSS, maybe I'll go that route.

I'm running star specs at the moment and the grip is amazing ! and when you do manage to spin them they don't scream like most tires do, which I like.

I'm not sure if the mich pss is on the same level as it isn't in the extreme performance category on tire rack.

If you am afford it- go PSS. I never knew what a difference a tire could make!
I got a store to match tire rack and used a coupon. If I remember correctly I was $1100 out the door. This was for the new PSS oe size. Slightly wider pss was actually less $$.

I highly recommend Continental Extreme Contact DW, put them on my 135 and LOVED them, also loved the price.

For a good comparison check out this month's Car & Driver, they break down about 8 or 10 of the leading performance tires. Good write up (seemingly unbiased, which is a stretch for C&D) on each to help you choose.

Yeah, the Michelin PSS is the big dog.

I had the P-Zero runflats on my 128. I was OK with them, though I had one blowout, though I did drive 40 miles (slowly) on it on the Washington Beltway to get to a dealer.

The P-Zeros are, as some have mentioned above, a better RFT, way better than the early ones.

Me, I switched to the Conti DW when the Pirellis wore out. I'm happy with them, though I do have the Conti Comfort Kit in the trunk, and my 1er doesn't see winter.
