Anyone get the Cargo Organizer?
Did any of you get the Cargo Organizer in the BMW accessories catalog? It's the kind that springs open when you need it and folds flat when you don't. How does it hold in place? Does it interfere with access to the storage area below?

I know that $80 sounds steep, but I usually only use my trunk for small items (like grocery bags). I wouldn't mind having something keeping things in line in my trunk. I figure I'll have my car for at least 7-8 years and I shop for groceries once a week...
I'll probably get it but I'm just wondering how it holds in place and if it prevents access to the trunk cubby.

yea, I was also wondering how it holds in place...if it has mounts or if the weight of the objects you put in there hold it in place. If I did a lot of grocery shopping, I would definitely get it but I don't...I don't know, I might get it eventually b/c I could put my backpack and other miscellaneous items in there...Right now I just throw everything in the trunk and hope it doesn't move around.

I just bought this organizer a week ago. I was under no obligation to buy it if I did not like. The parts dept. at my dealership had not seen it before, so they were interested in seeing it too. It has good weight to it and a rubberized bottom, so it does stay in place. When you open it up it has some dividers that can be taken out. You can adjust it to whatever size you need. Inside there is one handle on side so you can lift the whole thing out if you want to. You still have good access to tthe cubby hole. The inside dimensions are 24" long, 14" wide and 7" deep. The quality of this item is great.

So is the organizer more or less just a folding box that has a rubberized bottom to prevent it from sliding around the trunk? More specifically, does the base of the organizer extend out past the dimensions of the box structure. I was envisioning the organizer as a large mat to which the box is attached at the center. If not, I would be concerned that the box is not sufficiently secured to prevent it from sliding/moving (especially when loaded).
My own solution for preventing smaller items from sliding around the trunk was to purchase one of those collapsable plastic crates, and then secure it in the rear of the trunk with 2 adjustable bungee cords. Fortunately, it doesn't stick far enough out to obstruct access to the cubby hole, and can be collapsed when empty in order to gain some of the trunk space back. Not as elegant a solution, but it works for now. |

If you have a BMW accesories catalog it is in there. Item K for 80$. When I bought my car BMW sent me one. This organizer does not slide around. Again this organizer has some weight to it without any in it. I have checked after I have driven. It has never moved. Plus I have checked it when I have put groceries in. Same results. This is not a large mat. Like I said before this a quality made item. Also, Glenn let me know what you think when you get it. I do not think you will be disappointed. My dealer said I was under no obligation to take if I didn't like after I saw it.

Is this cargo organizer something that's similar to the cargo nets found in the Japanese cars? Let's say if you buy some chinese take out which consists of a quart of soup and other food, can you put it in the cargo organizer and it wouldn't fall or move around when you're driving?
I want to see some pics also.

I have it. Will post some pictures tomorrow, after I get back home where my camera is. In my case, the thing moves if I drive aggressively. Loaded or not does not matter, it still moves. I'm not very satisfied with it, but it works. At least the stuff inside it stay where they are even though the whole thing moves. What i really like about it, is that you can push it to the back of the trunk towards the back seat and you can still open the trunk compartment, since the cargo organizer is not big enough to block it. Other than the sliding issue, it's fine. Velcro dividers work well and there's enough space for grocceries, backpacks, briefcases, etc. I'm thinking of securing it with bungee cords though.

As for the sliding issue, if the floor of the trunk is a felt-like material, then simply sticking small tabs of Velcro to the bottom of the organizer should fix that. I'm awaiting delivery of my BMW, but in my current car I have a similar organizer and I put a small piece of Velcro at each corner and it doesn't budge at all.

I have it. Its been in my car for 3 months now. In my case, I got it for free (I was given a $100 certificate to use on BMW accessories). I have to add, that it is well worth every penny. I would buy it out of my own money again.
Most importantly I use it for groceries. Before the cargo organizer (CO), I would arrive home finding my groceries all over the trunk. Now, I just place the bags into the dividers and nothing moves. Also use it every day for my laptop. Before the CO, the laptop would be sliding all over the trunk (I leave my work laptop in the trunk and not in the car for theft reasons). So basically it has been so functional for me. I never really experienced the CO sliding around, surprising for my style of driving. Although the Co is heavy/sturdy with a rubber buttom, I can see that happen under extreme turns etc… Before I got this, I thought it would replace the “hatch door” and will fit inside the lower trunk. So when it is fully closed, it is level with the floor of the trunk. This isn’t the case, its basically a collapsable box that sits in your trunk. The last “feature” that saved my trunk is the fact that it is water proof. After a car wash one day, I threw all the detergents in the CO. The wheel cleaner bottle was leaking. I arrived home finding a pool of that stuff in the CO , but the trunk was untouched. Thanks to the durable vinyl/rubber material of the CO, I just spilled the stuff out and wiped it with a towel and was good to go. (I also had a similar experience with a milk carton ). The just of all of this, I think this is one good durable cargo organizer. I would recommend it. |

The organizer is actually fun to use since you get to decide which compartment to put whatever item you have in it. Also works great for those wine bottles as the sit at about a 45 degree angle. I also have the cargo liner and the organizer has never moved once through car motion. Even with the liner, I still can very easily access the hidden underfloor compartment. Complements the comfort access also

Ok, I'm still confused.
Have people been describing the cargo organizer (illustrated in the second set of pics), or the collapsible box (illustrated in first set of pics)? The pic of the cargo organizer makes it appear to be a large mat with a collapsible box that pops out from the center of the mat. The collapsible box is just that. |
