1er driver killed going wrong way on highway
This was near my house. He was going the wrong way for 15 miles or so from where he was first spotted. Very sad...was a young guy.

24 years old, 1:44am Saturday night/Sunday morning sounds about the time one would be coming home from the bars. I'd suspect that alcohol was involved. The 405 and 5 freeways are MAJOR freeways that would be near impossible to mistake direction unless one was impaired. Sucks for the family.

Wonder what the factors were that led the Camry passengers to come out with non-life threatening injuries while the 1er driver died. I always thought the 1er was a very safe car relative to others.

The 1-Series cars are very safe, but all bets are off when travelling at speed into a stationary object or object moving toward you with equal or greater speed and/or mass.

I rarely go out on the roads after midnight especially during the weekend. Nothing good will happen during that time anyways.

People in the Toyota (black car) suffered non-life-threatening injuries? Looking at the car, that almost seems impossible. Glad they're going to be OK.

I know the internet can be an easy place to have anonymity and point fingers but your statement (to me) is just as bad as someone driving drunk.

Also, about two months ago I was driving home from work at around 7 PM when I had to dodge this woman, a drunk driver traveling at full freeway speed going the wrong way: http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/loca...376656801.html |

Well, nobody even knows if this guy was drunk. Prior people were just assuming. Doesn't really matter. Drunk, high, or just dumb, it is frowned upon to drive the wrong way on a major freeway.

I wondered the same thing. It could've been something as simple as the 1er driver not wearing a seatbelt.

That's sad. Maybe the driver died because the Takata airbag didn't deploy. Obviously the true fault lies in driving in the wrong direction.
Poor family.

The Takata air bag issue has nothing to do with the inability to deploy in an accident. The Takata air bag issue is all about the propellant used and the casing of the propellant. The issue is in high humdity, high temperature environments the energy of the propellant and the corrosion of the casing causes the casing to fragment. The fragments become shrapnel which is what caused the deaths of those reported.
I'll reserve my comments about the probable drunk driving theory from a former first responder point of view. |
