It would be a better comparison if both cars were actually available for purchase.

So now i understand why the local dealerships here in Vancouver BC are selling used 1M's for more than the original sticker price! Thanks for the vids!

Biggest regret was me not ordering one

Hopefully one day I can add it to the ///M collection.

Trust me same boat here. I was also unwilling to pay a 15k markup. BMW makes the greatest car in recent history, but then makes it for only one model year.

No offense to anyone, but this is a laghable review...the other reviews posted between the two are much more balanced and IMO after driving both on a few occassions the Cayman R is the one to have.

Check the "Vintage Car Sale" classifieds section in the future, and a 1M might be all yours for a "vintage" price. Rare find, so don't be too picky re color choices, though.

If you don't want to dig into deep pockets for a 1M, you can still browse the "Second Hand Car Sale" classifieds section for getting a "second hand" Cayman. Plenty available, so colour choice won't be an issue.

Let me guess who will be all smiles on "Resale Day" (if I manage to keep the 1M in good shape: still a looong time for that day to come for me).

LOL!

Envy you guys with 1M's... price they are selling for locally 2nd hand one can get 3 x 2nd hand 135i's. Not sure if I could justify that but it would be my dream.

This video made my day. Thanks guys!

With the weather turning nicer, the 1M is now my DD (at least till we get that one week of winter here).

I don't think I want to go back to the A4 anymore

Does anyone have the production no of Cayman R? It is also kind of a one year model.

In Hong Kong, the Cayman R is WAY RARER than the 1M. IMO, Cayman R is a very good package as it comes with a lot free options. I would definitely get an used one later on to replace my 1M. Practicality is not really important to me as I only drive them during weekends/holidays.

1M is more refined and practical for daily and CR is better for weekends/tracks. 1M is better value for money and CR is still better in terms of quality of driving and feeling. We couldn't go wrong with either!

The Cayman R under it's current style was sold for 2011 and 2012. I doubt we will see an R version of the 981 for a number of years.

Looking forward to trying out the M135i - not a full M-Car but looks like a brilliant fast and useable package.

I sure there would have some people prefer 987/997 more. I am one of them.

And I bet it's a trend for car manufacturers to launch those special/performance/light weight edition for those 'almost end' models to boost up the sales.

Fun review! I've had the pleasure of testing out a Cayman S and I was very impressed. Just needs more power... The manual was the best shifting I've ever experienced.

There was a 1m dyno comparison with a jb4 135i and they both made basicaly the same power.
So the 1m is basically 390 crank horsepower, with tons of torque. Its a classic design and will one day be a collectors car. I would take the 1m over the cayman r even if they were the same price. I salute all you 1m owners, Im jealous!! Even though we have the same engine

I think he sells the Cayman R short. Perhaps it's because the review was only on the road, perhaps it's because of the type of road, certainly it's because of the type of driver he is (he doesn't enjoy winding the motor out). For whatever reason he never got the Cayman...

I own a 1M and I'd buy it again if I had it to do over. However having spent time in both I can't agree with his review.

Being a 1M owner I must say they car is a sheer blast every time I'm in the little coupe it does tend to surprise me and put a huge grin on my face.
