I recently installed new Philips 5000k bulbs for my halos, but I now have a bit of an issue with one of my Halo rings being brighter than the other. The passenger side halo is considerably dimmer than the drivers side, and i know it wasn't like this before.

The one thing i have noticed is the passenger side H8 bulb, is sitting at a slight angle compared to the drivers side which is dead centre/straight. So i am thinking it may be an alignment issue, and the light is not refracting correctly. Thing is, i have tried and tried to sit the bulb differently but it just wont sit any other way, only with this small upwards angle.

Has anybody else come across this issue and found a fix for it? I found this post http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=280765 which i thought might help, but i cant seem to see or feel any locator pins in the 1 series headlight

Just in this thread alone, two people have experienced this exact same issue mate. Look at post 37,42, 129 and 134. If the bulbs aren't seated in their sockets correctly, the rings won't light up uniformly. You will (unfortunately) have to start from scratch and take it all apart again, remove the bulbs, and try the process again. Certainly a frustrating exercise.

Has anyone pumped up the voltage on these bad boys through coding?

My phillips went in rather easy. Maybe you bent something?

Could indeed be you bent something, such as the components that enable you to attach the bulb socket to the light housing. Have you checked that?

I didn't do the initial install, my garage tech did. But in either case, nothing looks bent to me. It sits perfectly in the hole, but just just doesn't point straight inside the lens. I'm thinking i will email the trader i bought the LCI lights from and say they are faulty/damaged.

You need to see if it's the bulb, the housing or the socket you put the bulb in. Try putting the OEM H8 bulb back in the socket. Does it still not point straight inside the lens?

I tried swapping the new bulbs and using an old one, but it sits the same way everytime. It appears to be correct and flush with the socket. But if you look through the lens, it has an upwards angle to it, unlike the drivers side. I can only assume the socket or housing is warped somehow, making it point upwards slightly.

I mean, all it does is twist in on a flat surface, there isn't anything to adjust or bend etc. So i don't know why it sits the way it does

I know what the issue is now. The housing is not sitting in the headlamp correctly. Its not pressed into the top two clips. Not sur eif i can rearrange it though, its very stiff. May have to remove it from the car again

Do you have aftermarket front headlights?

Mate, I looked at this pic you posted. I can see the bulb pointing up even before you attempted the bulb swap...

That was after the bulb swap...

The bulbs and LCI headlights were fitted at the same time. Like i said, it's the housing, not the bulb or socket. I don't know how or why the housing is not in it's retainer clips, but it's not, and i just can't get it back in. It barely moves.

I think I'm going to go for these. I'll do the whole before/after thing with all the angles. I wish there were some halogens that went a little beyond 5000k but oh well.

Does no one make 6000k halogens? Or something 5500 or higher?

Just slapped In the headlights. It's super bright so I can't tell what the 5000k looks like... Doesn't look like any difference. Is the only H8 bulb In the assembly for the angel eyes? Could I have done something totally stupid and put it in the wrong spot?

There's only one H8 bulb in the headlight. Did you look at the lights before and after? I thought there wasn't much difference either until I saw another 1er with the OEM halogens and saw how yellow they were. They look kind of white until you actually do a direct comparison. Also, were your headlights on? The car lowers the voltage with them on and that causes them to look yellow. You can fix this by coding the car with the BMWhat app on android/iphone and a bluetooth/wifi OBDII adapter respectively.

I'm hoping for an improvement at night. Maybe they need some burn in time too

Based on my day results - you may be good with 8k during the day, they may be blue ish at night though... I would give it a shot. Fortune favors the brave
