BMW servicing drive

Just a quick question:

When you drop off your car to BMW for scheduled servicing is it routine that they take your car for a spin "to check levels"? It was a 10km circuit which according to the servicing department is their standard circuit.

Had my car serviced at Doncaster BMW.

As your probably aware, it takes a minute or 2 for oil levels to show on the computer, but 10km is a farce IMO. 10km "standard run" sounds like a test drive.... Most servicing places would just start the engine and let it idle for a min or 2 then check it and be done. BMW "extra care" i guess.

I have always left strict instructions with my SA, that my car can never be taken on a test drive, without me being present..
And it's always been adhered too..

I thought so too. Plus I requested an oil change with the service anyway and you don't need bloody 10km to make sure the levels are right.

That's what I'm going to do from now on. I've already learned the hard way not to get them to wash the car, now another thing to tell them not to do.

Too many servicing horror stories. This is a minor issue but it still annoys me that they just can't just provide honest professional service rather than spouting some BS about standard diagnostic service loops when there's no diagnosis required.

I think I might write a letter.

Thats a worry 10km is a long time away from the shop, who drove the car ? i think i would want to know.
Unless they were trying to find a noise or rattle in the car there is no reason to drive the car that distance.
If any of my staff were seen joy riding they would be goneskey
