air compressor for trunk
ok, now that I've made the switch to non-runflats, I want to keep an air compressor in my trunk. the smaller the better, hopefully one that will fit in the compartment near the battery. obviously, I don't want junk.
any suggestions? thanks in advance, bk |

Viair 70P. It should cost about $50. It is quiet and powerful. It comes in a small black zippered bag. I also got an accessory outlet with clamps you can hook to your battery terminals. You need 15A which not all cars have. The bimmer does but it is only active for a short period after you turn the car off. I didn't want to run the motor to air the tires so I just clamp to the battery.
I have a 120V compressor that is pretty powerful - I use it to paint sometimes and run air tools. I have to move my cars to a second driveway to use the 120V compressor. I don't do that any more. The Viair is quick enough it would be a waste of time. I can air up all four tires of both my vehicles in just few minutes. It is useful for more than emergencies. Cheaper ones are noisy and seem to barely do anything. When I just googled it I got a price of $44 from Amazon. $50 with the accessory outlet I recommend. That is delivered. Jim

Look at the BMW Mobility Kit from Tischer online (part no. 71100413439) (see if this link will work http://is.gd/CAsDkk). A nicely done nylon case with a rubberized bottom to keep it from sliding around and includes pump, sealant, etc, even some gloves. I've used it on my RFTs and it works without problems. Perhaps a bit pricey, but as usual with BMW, I was pleased with the product, especially with the price from Tischer. Otherwise, I have read some recommendations for the one at tirerack.com.

I also have the Viair. Works much better than I expected. Won't fit under the trunk floor, but will easily fit in the extreme right or left spaces in the trunk, behind the wheel wells. It recommends that you have the car running when using it and I find that works fine if using the cigarette lighter socket. (Although the battery accessory kit could be very helpful, the power cord is long enough to reach all wheels from the lighter socket.) As I recall, Amazon had the best price.

great suggestions, everyone, but I hate to give up any of my precious trunk space. underneath is better.
question: how often have you actually used it to repair a flat? |

The BMW Mobility Kit measures 8"Wx10"Lx4"D. Don't know if that would fit underneath or not. I just stored in one of the side bins at the entrance of the trunk when I was carrying it for a slow leak in one of my RFT.

I have a Sears Craftsman inflator in all cars in the house. It has a digital display and you can set it to the PSI that you want and it will fill up to that setting and turn itself off....

The Conti comfort kit provides the sealant and air in one kit. It fits vertical in the compartment next to the battery and the trunk cover fits flush enough. See link:

I have this Viair, and it will fit next to the battery under the trunk panel. Little tight, but fits nicely. Seems like a nice solid unit. Get yourself a quality Tire plug kit and keep it in there as well. You'll be all set.

I just picked up a Viair 85p + Dynaplug + Roadpro 12V Battery Clip-On and Cigarette Lighter Adapter from Amazon the other day. All of this fits in the side cubby in the trunk.
