Fidelity Warranty Service, Inc any good?

1addicts, I have a few days of warranty left and the dealer pitched BMW and Fidelity Warranty Service, Inc to me today after service. BMW is nutso and won't consider it but Fidelity is interesting. If any have it and have had to use it, please share your experience.

Again, in order to keep things brief, I'm looking into info from those with experience with Fidelity not opinions on whether warranties are wise or not. I never get them but just being thoughtful in considering it.

Thank you.

Generally speaking, I've heard negative things about non-BMW warranties. I have one from Warranty Direct for my 335i, and it's been painful. They won't cover the full cost of BMW parts and labor, and dealing with their customer service had been aggravating.

Thanks. I've been googling a bit and lots of complaints about fidelity but dealer says they love them.

Sorry, I can't offer experience specific to Fidelity -- but with insurance I always look for a company that is sound financially, that has a high likelihood of being around over the next few years when you need to make a claim.

Is this Fidelity affiliated with THE Fidelity financial services company? If so, it's probably a decent alternative.

Good luck, let us know what you decide.

i think i got a quote from them through my university's union when i was crossing 50k miles---and it was like $5k. Right now i'm at 72k miles and the car has needed nothing besides maintenence....really glad i didn't buy into it.

easy choice to say NO to that......helped by the fact that i don't usually buy into 'extended warranties'.

what kind of deal are you getting on this warranty?

It's about $3k for 5 more years . It's lower for my car because it's still in warranty and is low miles. 12700 at the moment and I'll probably put about 3-5 k per year.

well that's a really good deal as far as extended warranties go.

i don't know the credibility of these reviews but they are bad...

I would roll the dice and not do it the warranty for 3k seeing you do not drive it that often...however, maybe if it was cheaper. Toyota offered me a 7yr 70k for my 4Runner, $1.2k. Declined it, but if this was a BMW I'd probably do it for that amount.

If something shits the bed on the M just research how to fix it and put the $ into tools...or get to know your techs like I do and see if they can do more involved jobs on the side. If you continue to be proactive w/ maintenance and what not you should be fine. Just my $.02 GL

Bottom line: if you really feel the need to extend the warranty, getting it directly from BMW is really the only safe bet.

i think its a tough decision... however, i am probably going to pass. i have to ask myself:
is my car going to need $3-4k worth of repairs in the next couple years?
considering this is also my "once in a while" car, probably ok to pass.

I too, gave it a miss. I'm barely putting on 700 miles a year. So the cost doesn't seem justifiable. Put that money aside and keep it for preventative maintenance or whenever actual repairs are needed.

I also passed on an extended warranty. Saved the money for repairs, which I haven't had to use yet. Been out of warranty for a year this month. Just keep up the scheduled maintenance.

I understand some people wanting it for peace of mind, though. Nothing wrong with that if it helps you sleep better. I'd go with a BMW extended warranty if I was going to get one.

Coming from me and my service department, I've had nothing but good service experiences with them, they're very prompt and quick at processing claims. If the price is reasonable, I'd get it.

I bought my car with the extended BMW warranty on it, but when it ends I'll get another. One rear Diff issue will run you a lot of money! It's not the small stuff you are ensuring it's the big stuff. I have two M's and I won't own one without a warranty.

For what it is worth I was a service advisor for BMW of Manhattan for 8 years and moved over to Porsche afterwards and although typically aftermarket extended warranty companies were a hassle to deal with Fidelity was always good to work with...

That sounds great but first I have to believe in it before pitching it to anyone else. Also I only have 3 days of warrant left. Not enough time to do it before it expires and there are additional costs and hassles.

We should compare prices. I'm leaning to going solo. Unless I got a great price on one. Group buy would've been cool though.

Take this website with a grain of salt. Target, Whole Foods and other respected retailers all have 1-star ratings. Websites like Consumer Affairs are essentially mouthpieces for people who have failed to exercise their own due diligence and need a place to vent.

That being said, just about every extended warranty is a ripoff, and the fine print needs extensive examination before making a purchase.
