OEM Exhaust character change
I'm fairly convinced that my 1M with its standard exhaust is now making more pops and a bit more burble to its voice.
It could just be my imagination though. Car has done 25k miles and runs Shell Nitro Plus and is otherwise completely standard. Anyone else noticed this? |

I'm exactly in the same situation as you, my car has 20k miles and I think my exhaust is making more pops/burbles aswell, but I'm also not sure if it is my imagination.
It is a strange situation, this morning I think I heard the exhaust crackle when I lift off but I'm never 100% sure. This happened around 5 times already. |

As the exhaust gets carbon'd up over time/miles... the carbon inside the exhaust will change the sound of the exhaust. This is especially true on BMW's Performance Exhausts(PE like for the 135i).

I have 39k on mine and I have noticed that with the "m" button presses I am getting more exhaust pops and noises.
Unchanged exhaust in normal driving mode. |

The walnut blasting is done on the intake and top of the valves to remove deposit build up that degrades performance noted usually by hesitation during acceleration. I have never heard of anyone walnut blasting their exhaust system to remove carbon buildup, but that doesn't mean it couldn't be done.

Crazy, I thought it was just me. I'm at 37k kms and when I took him out of hibernation this spring things felt a bit deeper/poppy overall. I've been wanting to do the N55 mid pipe but I'm kind of happy as it is right now.

I bought Dac's N55 midpipe. Initially, it was a bit quieter, but didn't do that much about the resonances at 2200 and 2800rpm.
Now, 8K miles later, it has quieted considerably - it still has the bass part of the sound, and the resonances are still there, but much quieter. However, it is no longer a loud car - in fact, aside from the bass component, it resembles the sound of a BMW motorcycle on steroids or an M3. ...except for that nice loud POP yesterday that turned a few heads (including mine) when I wound it up and got off the throttle suddenly... But in general I like a quiet fast car a lot better than a loud fast car. ----------------Update-------------- The loud POP was actually the upper hose coming loose from the charge pipe...
