Question 46" TV... Can I Make This Work?

Hi guys,

So I'm headed over to Best Buy tonight to pick up a new flat screen LCD HDTV. 46 inches. Only problem is that I've got the 1. Is there ANY WAY that I'm going to be able to fit this baby into the car? I refuse to damage my car's leather or plastic, so please keep that in mind when answering. Someone with better math skills than me please help me diagram this situation. Thanks.

No sir. Unless you get the roof rack and tie it on top.

They don't deliver?

Yes it will fit, you can fit an entire bicycle box in the trunk with the back seats folded down and that is almost 60 inches in diameter. Take a thick blanket with you to best buy and take the TV out of the box and wrap it in the blanket and lay it down lengthwise in the trunk. It should fit fine.

BOTH back seats fold down? I didn't even know that was possible. I'm also not thrilled about opening an expensive new TV in the Best Buy parking lot...

Make them deliver that for free or tell them you are going to circuit city. They'll do it. That thing will not fit in your 1 and will get messed up, the box my 46in LCD came in was huge, and there is no way I would risk taking it out of the box in the parking lot.

OMG - When I saw the title of this thread, I thought I was going to see someone who wanted to install a 46" TV in a 1er - that would have been a fun thread!

I actually did see someone a couple years ago with something about that size in the back of a Hummer H1 :eyebulge: Some folks will do anything for attention. . .

Have Fun,
Rick

There's no way you're going to be able to do it. I picked up my 42" Plasma from Circuit city a year ago when I got it in my E46 3series COUPE. It didn't fit in the trunk and BARELY ( SERIOUSLY BARELY ) fit into the door. I actually had to take the TV out of the box in order to fit it inside the car. Never took that box home.

No way you're going to get that TV in a 1 series!

it all depends on the dimensions and whether or not it will fit through the seat opening. I HIGHLY doubt it will fit, and certainly not in the box. Get it delivered or rent a pickup from Lowes, Home Depot, or Uhaul for $19. Better yet, Phone a friend with an SUV.

I just bought from BestBuy and they threw in delivery free. Because of the economy they're making deals now.

You'll need at least a station wagon - I've gotten two 42" TVs into cars - the first time the box barely fit in a Volvo 240 wagon and the other one fit into a Mazda5 with just a bit of space to spare.

You might be able to squeeze it in the back seat - I moved the first TV in the back seat of an E30, which is about the same size at the 1er, but not in the box and you'll need at least two people to get it into the car.

If you're getting it new you want to save the box in case anything's broken, though, I assume -- it's for that kind of thing that I have a Zipcar account.

flat panel tv's are much more prone to damage if laid flat. however you transport it, make sure that it goes upright.

EDIT: looks like this restriction is only for plasmas, not lcd's. good luck!

Haha I thought exactly the same thing

Although when I bought my 40" Bravia I managed to get it in this:

The guys working out the back of the store came and took pictures because they couldn't believe I had gotten it in there :P

It'll fit, but you can do a LOT better than bestbuy for TV's - I just picked up a 46" Samsung and BestBuy was asking $300 over both Frys and Amazon.

Laying an lcd flat risks dead pixels, but you've got a decent amount of room with the seats down. I'd have a friend drive.

Nothing wrong with BB for TV's. If they have the set you are looking for and you have viewed it in a proper home theater store, why pay rediculous home theater store markups on something as simple as a tv? Save the markups for when that home theater store actually installs a home theater in your home. Nate

^ That's what I'm saying. BB charges more than even Amazon for TVs and you can beat the Amazon prices at a few places.

Take the 46" A630 - A couple weeks ago Fry's online was offering it for $1299. Fry's stores had it for $1399. Amazon would ship it from one of it's retailers for $1499 with free shipping. Best Buy is asking $1799.

Besides, I'm not thrilled with the crap they pull in-store with some of their displays.

You know you can rent a pickup from Uhaul for about 15 bucks right? This is assuming you can't get BB to give you free delivery.
