that's a lot of boost for a V8.. 22.5psi. what's the car like off boost? it must run quite low compression??

how much do the 135/335 run from factory??
That seems like a lot of boost for the V8. I thought it was around 18.5psi.

That engine must get incredibly hot though. After I turn the car off I can still hear the fans going quite loudly for a good 2 minutes.

I think stock boost in the 135/335 is around 8.5psi.

a quick google shows 135i runs 8.8psi.
That post by 'WAY' says the X6/5M runs 1.5 bar which is 21.75 psi.. a lot of boost! That might explain the turbo lag - it would take a while to develop that pressue, even given the volume of exhaust gas coming out of the big V8 and the number of turbos.
I might have to see if I can get my self a drive of one of these to experience it first hand

I have to admit that my test drive was all about driving hard (mesh the throttle all the way lol) so that may explain why I didn't sense turbo lag much at all. Didn't feel much different to the 135i in terms of turbo lag. But then again, none of the reviews have mentioned much turbo lag so I think even completely off boost, it still pulls strongly.

Btw, what I posted earlier is from BMW's own press release so the details are all correct.

What sort of pressure does it get bumped up to with a JB or Procede installed? 8.8psi seems rather low and leaves room for "improvement" (assuming the engine will take more).

Turbos between the V? The exhaust must be pretty convoluted to come from outside to inside the V to drive the turbos. This could partly explain the muffled sound. Of course a non turbo car will nearly always sound better than a turbo car as turbos act as a rotary mufler.

I think the X5M looks horn and all X6s pretty tragic. 'Could never justify a performance 4wd though. What is the point? I love taking our 4wd to Fraser and Moreton islands, but can't see I'd ever take a shiny BMW on 20 something inch rims there. How many BMW 4wds actually go (properly) off road? 1%? I see them mostly as a pretentious show piece, used to drop the kids off at the private school before heading off for a latte at the coffee shop.

I'm sure I've put many off side now. Sorry...

In my case it is pretty simple. Wife drives a X3 3.0si at the moment. 0-100 in 7.5s and with M sport suspension it doesn't exactly handle like a dog lol. BUT, I don't enjoy driving it at all because it feels too slow. So when wifey decided that she wants a bigger SUV to lug around all the junk in the boot and so that everyone is comfortable when the parents come along in the car with us, I took the opportunity to find the fastest SUV possible. I test drove the twin turbo diesel too, but it just didn't do it for me. I need power and speed! Lol. I considered big wagons too btw, like the RS6, but the wifey doesn't like them. So what is a man to do but to buy a X5M?

She already is because often she drives the C63...she too feels the X3 is too slow now that she is used to the C63.

Anyone prepared to spend $270,000 plus on road for a wagon needs their head read. Still, they build them because there's always someone who will buy them.

I don't know. Many would say the same about the X5M. In fact many would say a RS6 makes more sense than a X5M.

Thing is....I have three primary school age kids. They wouldn't give a damn whether they were carted around in an X5M, an RS6 or a Commodore because they'd treat them all the same as my '05 X5! Spew is the same in any car regardless of country of origin! School bags get thrown in and dragged across bumpers and seats with no care and food particles end up in every nook and cranny. I tried a "no food" rule but try telling 3 kids that and then expect a peaceful 20 minute drive home from school!

We would have moved into a 4.8L V8 E70 a long time ago but at this stage the wife jokes(?!) that she wants a Hilux SR5 dual cab!

If you're spending $250k+ on a car, I would want it to be either doing 0-100 in the low 4s or be bathed in the finest leather and interior trim...

I've got a 2 year old who kicks the back of the front seat and throws food and drink all over the place. Oh, did I tell you I have opted for Bamboo Beige interior on the X5M? I am going to make my detailer rich.

You've obviously got more patience than me! Kids are the reason we always go for black interiors.
