That said, there are many N54 engined cars running around with the older HPFP that have not had failures. I'm a 01/08 build, which assures an older version HPFP, with mileage at 8500 and no problems - so far.

Fair enough. I'm still on the fence between 128i and 135i, and if HPFP issues keep getting reported, that could really throw me toward the 128i. I'll be watching closely for more reports of HPFP issues, especially in '09 models once they start hitting the streets.

From what I've read and heard, one of the reasons the 3rd gen HPFP is in such short supply is that new production N54 engines have priority over replacements. Hopefully, BMW will get this sorted out and either recall all old HPFPs for replacement or extend the warranty on that part.

Hey, just so I'm clear....the original poster did NOT have a 3rd gen HPFP to begin with, right? He had an older one and the BMW tech verified that he'd OBTAINED a 3rd gen to replace the original, right?

:bs: is EXACTLY right. It's one thing to have this problem in the first place, but to try and save a dime by installing re-manned pumps? WTF!?

Mine was replaced with a reman. pump at around 4K. I didn't look at the ticket until this weekend, when I had a long hard start, and got the engine light! I am at almost 12K now. I just set up to take it in for the new 881 pump. At least I told the SA that is what I want. Glad you started this thread!

I take it to Tom Williams in Birmingham. They have been very good so far! You're pretty safe with your white 135, the closest that I've been to Ft Rucker is Columbus, GA, at least lately. I haven't seen another white 1 anywhere I have traveled, and that is with almost 12K miles!

It will be a bittersweet day when I meet another AW one on the road. It is one of the few nice things about lower AL, haven't seen another 135 around.

There are 3 part numbers shown in the Online ETK for the HPFP, with the 3rd one apparently the current version (3rd Gen).
