Damn.. Consumption shot up to 15.0l/100km today as my foot was a bit heavier...

@carbonic - which OBD dongle are you using? they're pretty expensive last time i checked? about R3000 or so?

would love to use one with the Rev app for the iPhone!

I've got an OBDKey which I imported from the UK. Runs on its own software instaled on my Windows Mobile PPC (or laptop if you wish), and also sends data to RaceChrono, also on my PPC, for full parameter performance test and track logging.

This data can then be imported into RaceChrono2AVI to create virtual instrumentation, which can be overlaid on your video footage of track exploits.

My wife called me a gadgetboy so I zapped her with my pocket hyperphazer ...

The idiots at Forsdicks Sandton dont know about the HPFP - high pressure fuel pump issue. They cant diagnose the problem and has sent an SOS to BMWSA to assist. As of this morning they are waiting for BMWSA to come back with an answer. I told them about the known HPFP issue and they that is not the problem, the fuel injecotrs are misfiring they say... 1 night without my 135 and counting..

My car has been diagnosed as needing a Low pressure fuel pump (in tank) replacement by BMWSA. The part should arrive this afternoon, so I will see if it solves the issue..

A bit of update.. Turns the issue with my car was the ..... wait for it.... dreaded infamous High Pressure Fuel Pump... This after I told the mechanic and he said it wasn't so. He logged a call with BMW SA and they diagnosed the problem as the faulty HPFP on cars built prior to Sept 2008. Thanks to 1addicts, I knew about this and will be getting the new 881 version of the fuel pump, apparently the exhaust sounds deeper and louder with the replacement, so I'll just have to wait and see. As for my 320 loaner with Need for Speed Shift / BMW Efficiency Dynamics stickers all over, I look like a boy racer on the road

Forsdicks are full of !@#$. They know damn well about the HPFP issues. Heck, I practically gave them a thesis on it when my car went in and - after initially being skeptical - they got confirmation directly from BMW SA of everything I told them.

At least you got a 320 loan car, not a Toyota (like I did).

The HPFP won't affect exhaust note, HOWEVER, if they load the latest software, it will have a slight affect. Something to do with the wastegate actuation or similar. It's not standard procedure to update software on a HPFP change, only to reset the DME adaptions. If you want the latest software, you'll need to ask them for it.

News Flash…. Got my car back yesterday after spending a day with Need for Speed Shift. HPFP replaced with new model ending in 881, DME reset, new software installed (didn’t ask for it but not complaining).. Here are first impressions after the fix

-Car feels noticeably quicker, even when I am not on Sport mode
-Engine note slightly deeper and louder
-Lag.. What lag???
-Gear up shifts and downshifts slightly quicker

All in all, I am happy so far, will monitor it for a month or so and see if there’s no issues..

Here pics from my cell phone of the Efficiency Dynamics/ Need for speed 320 loaner…
