Have Cash, and am ready to buy the "RIGHT" plug and play wheel when it shows up,.....I LOVE the idea of a 1 specific CSL wheel,..but the recessed Mounting plate killed it for me. Looks like an afterthought.

The mounting area of the Factory CSL & somthing like the VMR 713 is choice. Not sure if that type of look is feasible with this wheel,..but it may be worth looking in to.

These are not CSL wheels, they were never intended to look like the CSL wheel. The recessed center area allows the wheel to be lighter and to change offsets easily. Consider the amount of extra material that would be used to fill in that void. for example a 15mm spacer with 10 lug holes drilled into it weights about 1.2lbs. consider the volume of material needed and the weight added. When you do this you just end up burying the lugs deep into the wheel. These wheels were designed with function over form in mind. When it comes to wheels used on the track or a racing application there are many benefits to having the center open.

To note, the CSL is a decedent of a wheel that also uses an open/recessed center area.

I finally got a valid reason to replace the stock wheels/run-craps (left front tire went flat), but there is no WAY I could wait until Nov.

Really Sux, cause my run flats were on their way to needing to be replaced next Spring anyway. If I really hate the OZ's I got, maybe these will end up back on my list.

Consider the fact that the car is naturally staggered. In an ideal world, the 1 series would allow an equally wide wheel to be run up front (9.5" all around). If we found the true centerline of the front and rear wheels, then the stock rear wheels already stick out more then the stock fronts. They would not be equal until they ran the same sized tire all around. And even then the chassis is probably still setup to be physically wider in the rear at the hub mounting points. If the 1 series can't fit an ultra wide front wheel/tire, then having a wheel with a wider track is the next best thing.

Look at what is optimal on the E36, E46, and E92 for comparison. Because those cars have much more front fender clearance they can get away with fitting a relatively wide front tire. On the E36 specifically its very popular to run a 17x9" wheel all the way around. If that car came with 7.5" front and 8.5" rears stock, then going to a 9" front is a significant increase in size. AND a 5-10mm spacer is almost always need in the front to get tires to clear the strut tube. Every single club racer running an 8.5" or 9" setup on the E36 is running a 10mm spacer up front to widen the track and to provide extra clearance, while the rear stays relatively conservative. E46 and E92 owners will try to squeeze 9.5" and 10" wheels up front, and yes it can stick out.

Berk tested a modified version of some wheels that were 18x8.5" et40 front and 18x9.5" et58 rear if I remember correctly. I'm not sure if they also used a 5mm spacer up front or not. Here is a photo of that setup. I can only assume they had camber plates, but still, at 58mm the rear wheels are noticeably out from the rear fenders while the fronts don't look aggressive.



From a purely aesthetic stand point, a 100% stock car running the widest possible tires front and rear may look a little funny with the 8.5" fronts. We won't really know how weird that is until we have some samples mounted onto some cars. But realistically people should be trying to make 245's fit on the front of an unmodified car. Beefy wheel/tire setups will always require work to fit. Camber plates would quickly alleviate this aesthetic concern, and will most likely be of interest to people who really want to take advantage of all that grip. currently wheels on the market have overly aggressive rear fitments where the wheels clearly stick out of the rear fender. That aggressive rear fitment looks very odd and requires the car to sit up like and SUV.

So basically although on paper the front sounds very aggressive compared to the rear. The front actually match the rears well.
