Wheel Question - Plastidip Touch Up

I have a set of 261M black wheels and when I bought them with the car from the dealer I was under the impression they were power coated...however after driving around in Toronto with all the pot holes, they got a bit of rash and sure enough they are peeling black with silver underneath.

What's the best way to fix this problem? Have never done plastidip and I'm just assuming that's what the previous owner used for it.

Can you plastidip with the wheels on the car, or do you need to take them off? Should I just pay to have them power coated? It's weird because the wheel under neath doesn't look super shiny like I would expect if they were the original 261M underneath.

You can do it on the car, but you need to reach through the wheel and cover up the brakes with plastic or paper. There's a ton of vids on YouTube that will teach you everything you need to know about Plastidip.

Probably painted if it doesn't look normal under.
Plasti-dip normally does the job, not for or against it, it's good for experimenting before you want to paint/powder coat your wheels. In the end I'd much rather have my wheels painted or powder coated.

Garage List
2009 135i  [8.00]
I used plasti dip on my wheels a couple weeks ago. I only did the dishes so it took me a while to get the inside all taped off right. Would have been quicker if I just needed to cover the brakes and everything. Really easy to use and has been holding up well so far. Try some different colors for it. I went with gunmetal. This took me all night. Mostly because taping off the inside took so long. It's very doable on the car though. I'm on my phone so the order is off.

exactly this. i have been running my stock 264s plastidipped for a couple months now and its kind of obnoxious. i have just been using regular wheel cleaner to clean it but you can see its slowly eating away at it. brake dust also seems to stick to it more, and i dont believe you can wax plastidip to prevent the brake dust sticking.

the reason i did it is because i didnt have (or want to spend for that matter) $700 to get the wheels redone, and thats the only reason you should use plastidip. for the cost of having the wheels repainted or powedercoated, you can buy a set of cheap aftermarket wheels instead and run the stockers as winters.
