Want to start a page dedicated to track setups on 17 inch wheels if there's not one already!

Looks like I'm moving to staggered 17" M68s to alleviate the pain of these rough Philly roads.

Although my idea setup would be something like 17x8 (or 8.5), ET40, with 245/40-17s all around.

Will post pics when they're on.

Pics of my my wheels (Sparco Tarmac 17x8 ET45) are here
Below is a pic showing the difference is width between my Toyo R888 and Michelin PSS. The Michelin PSS isn't a track tire! Both are 245/40/17 mounted on 17x8 rims.

Definitely is not. But it is a good place for someone new to the track to start at(much more forgiving than R Comps).

I wouldn't recommend the PSS for anyone driving on a circuit. They might be ok for a naturally aspirated car if you drive in a cold climate, but in my case I found they overheat very quickly on the 135i. Even with DTC mode activated, they are very slippery after about 3 laps. The R888 is a lot more consistent with temperature and predictable so they give me a better chance of improving my skills without incident. I found that as long as I am cautious for the first lap, it isn't hard to bring them up to temperature. R888 has treadwear rating of 100, so they are a bit more durable than other R-comps.

Here are a couple of photos of a 1-series race car that uses our 17x8.5" ET40 ARC-8's:

This was the information we were given in the past:
  • ARC-8's, Hyper Black, 17x8.5" ET40
  • Maxxis RC-1 Tires in 255/40/17
  • Eibach Suspension
  • Negative camber in the front (we'd guess at least -3)
  • Rear fenders heavily rolled

Nice...I run the M68s on the street to deal with the city roads.

At least for the ability to rotate and looks, how about trying to track down another pair of rear M68s and running a 8-10 mm spacer? Also cheaper than the arcs.

Seriously considered this, but finding clean, straight M68's where people are willing to part with just the rears was proving taxing. Also had to consider the cost of $100+/- for spacers and longer bolts. In the end, ARC8 were readily available, and not that much more OTD.
Also, depending on how the 2014 season goes, I may end up ditching the 68's and picking up the 18x9.5 fitment ARC8 and going with 275's for 2015.

Roger that. The ARC's are going to look too good, and you'll be on 4 of them w/square 245s (or rolling fenders and 255s) in no time.

When that happens, sell me your rears (that sounded awkward)!

I have been running 245/40/17 square as my daily driver for over 2 years. Currently Conti DW but have had more aggressive tires on it. 1st year just slight rub on big dips with alignment pin pulled to max camber. Last year added M3 arms and still a slight rub as the suspension is getting worn. This spring i'm adding camber plates, shocks, and springs and exspect no rub.

Sneak peak, took a few weeks but the wheels and tires made it! Thank you tire rack! 225/45/17 BFG rivals on Sparco assessto gara wheels. I went ahead and got Dinan camber plates. I'm lowered on H&R sport springs on msport struts. Will post pictures mounted in 3 months when I get home from deployment. I drive a 128i I Figured this will be a good setup to learn for something better down the road.

I'll be running ARC8s (17x8.5) with 245s squared this year for STX. Ordered the wheels during the GB, so once they come in and I get the tires mounted/suspension installed and rears rolled I'll throw up some pics
