Back up LED lights...Opinions
I just picked up a 2013 135i and dug up some old posts from long ago. I was wondering what everyone is using for LED backup lights now that LED are more popular in mainstream car culture. Tell me all the details about them. For example where did get them, what specs are they, any codes what should I look out for...?

I don't think many users here have swapped out the bulbs for LED bulbs. Most keep the OEM housings cuz they are either better than the aftermarket or there is nothing out there. Most of us get blacklines and call it a day

It seems really strange to me that someone would expend any time, effort, or money on LED back-up lights.

I could see it, having some stupendously bright bulbs for seeing in the dark when driving backwards is appealing. Especially for anyone with window tint like me. And they are really easy to swap out, under 5 minutes if you've changed a bulb before, 10 minutes if not and you're being slow and careful. My issue is finding something decent quality, what I've seen on ebay doesn't inspire much confidence.

I couldn't find anything that was adequate to replace a 16 watt reverse bulb (W16W). There are LED replacements on ebay but they're all garbage
Ended up having to make my own: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1179633

I bought these from amazon and i've had no problems with the install (on my blacklines) took about 15 minutes total. I now run error free (on the dash) with the only downside being that the car will do a random check from time to time to see if the lights work and they flash like a strobe. Personally, I like how it looks.
Don't know if I can share the link, but they are called JDM Astar Super Bright LEDs. |

Bumping this to see if anyone has found anything decent yet? Other than the DIY combo (which is awesome). I think I'd be capable of the DIY but w/ a baby in the house time is tight and I don't see myself getting to it anytime soon!

I still like mine. I've used them in some low-light conditions recently and they throw out plenty of bright white light.
