I don't really get why people are asking if they should un-install for said inspections....I thought the biggest advantage of this flash tune is that it's the easiest to un-install/re-install exactly for the purpose of inspections.
~10 min of time.
How lazy. Why not just do it if it's so easy instead of taking a chance? I don't own an AP so not sure if I'm missing something in the process.....is there more to it that nobody is saying or is it just 10min is too long for some people?

laziness bites most.. but it's pretty quick to uninstall, takes about 20minutes to install.. but all you have do to is press a button and go have a beer.

lol. You're right, it is lazy. I remember when I had a JB3, I would install/uninstall all the time just cause I was paranoid. Honestly though, my Cobb stage 1 feel just a powerful. Planning on doing FBO by christmas. Can't even imagine what it'll be like.

I would say for type of inspection. stage one vs. two. if you had stage two & need to go in for a state emissions inspection or whatever you'd better leave it installed unless you take your DPs out too. otherwise you'll have to deal with check engine lights raising flags that something is amiss

dealer inspections crap you'd better just take it out

Lucky for me we don't have any state smog sniff or anything here. we used to but they got rid of it because the found it really doesn't improve air quality.

then again i'm not going stage two anyhow.

Each time you install/uninstall you take the chance of something going wrong and royally messing up the system.

about as much as denting your car while filling it up with gas. this isn't a piggyback. you'd have to be drunk to mess it up.

As long as you don't have a warning light, the State Inspection software couldn't care less about what version engine management software (OEM or not) you're running. In the same way that they don't care what coffee can exhaust you've installed, as long as what comes out of it meets emissions requirements.

And before anyone else asks... if you have a light and use a tool like PEAKE to reset it just before going to inspection you still won't PASS. The reason is... once the FAIL state is stored, each monitor has a very specific routine that it follows in order to evaluate the condition it's monitoring before it will change to PASS. For example, you might have to drive at a constant speed for X number of miles, with temperatures within Y and Z. If the fault condition doesn't reoccur, then it's a PASS. But then again, if you had a definitive faulty component (not an occasional misfire), chances are the fault condition would occur again after your reset.
you will not get a CEL from the "monitors" not being in the READY state, everyone should also keep in mind that if your running catless downpipes even with stage 2 maps you will not pass a OBDII emissions test due to the "monitors" never reaching a ready state. You'll need a hardware DPFIX for that.

True. Not all monitors will trigger a console light. That depends on how each manufacturer implemented those lights.
BMW for example will display a Service Engine Soon light if you get misfires and other related mishaps, which triggers the emissions monitors.

The point is... there is a risk, however infinitesimal for you, associated with flashing the engine software.
That risk varies in part based on dexterity of the user, but in another part could depend on things out of your control, or even luck.
For example, say in the middle of the flash your engine or the battery dies for whatever reason. Now what?
Would you chose to fill up your 18 gallon tank 18 times, one gallon at a time, just for the heck of it? Eventually you'll get a dent. You can't fight statistics.

Moral: if you don't have to do it, avoid doing it.

Fair enough. It's also the reason when I install or uninstall I always use a battery charger. When I'm changing maps I don't but the length if time needed to do complete install is worth peace of mind.

Piggybacks on the other hand.... Drop screws in the hvac system. Broken clips. Bunged up wires or connectors. No thanks

Sorry, but didn't want to read through 53 pages of posts, so forgive me if this has been asked. Are there plans for a N55 version? If so, when? Thanks.

I think it would be a great idea if this thread could be RE-NAMED to:

Cobb N54 Tuning Accessport for 135i

and open a second thread for:

Cobb N55 Tuning Accessport for 135i

When Cobb does come out with a N55 tune...I seriously doubt they're going to keep it a secret.

FYI at least in Illinois you will still pass if you have one system in a not ready state, you need two to fail. Just did it on my beater, evap system was listed on the printout as not ready, CEL was thrown, still passed. So I would think its very likely that you would still pass with catless dps as long as nothing else is wrong. Plus, why not just try, if you fail then you take them out, not like you go to jail for failing.
