Rim Painting
Are there any experts out there that know if when painting rims professionally if there is a different paint and clear coat that is needed due to the temperature of the brakes being so near and the temperature they get?
I am looking to have my rims painted by a friend that used to do touch painting for car dealerships but he has not been doing it for a while. I have seen his work so i am comfortable with how he paints but he and I would just like to know what paint we should get. We are planning on using regular PPG pigment and clear unless anyone has any other recommendations. thanks for your help, RK

Yep power coating doesnt give me the colors I want. I did think about that and it looks like the wheels were power coated from the factory. Jsut guessing since they are so hard to sand.

Really? When I got my wheels done it seemed like there were a ton of color choices.

What color are you trying to get rking117? I just ordered a really unique red from VMR. They have a ton of color options that I've seen.

I am try for a black with red medium metallic flake. It should make tehm look gloss black at night but have a shimmer of red during the day. Cannot find a real good representation of what i was looking for in power coat. I have seen painted rims all over. So it looks like we can simply add a little more activator to the clear to make it harder than usual which should do the trick. It should be ok since the rims dont really flex like a plastic body part would. We'll see. Next Sunday is the day providing everyone that has been sick gets over these stupid colds. I will post pictures when we are done.
