Well, nothing is inconceivable, it could happen. But lets not forget that the car industry market's a lot using tradition. That being the case, it doesn't make sense to me to use the M1 badge for the 1 series because, 1) it messes with BMW heritage in general, 2) it limits BMW from using the M1 name, if they decide to build a super car down the road, and 3) the 1 series has heritage of it's own - the 2002 Tii, why not build on that?

I remember when the mini first came out and everyone was talking about an M mini - do you guys remember that? So far I have yet to see BMW bring in the M for the mini, instead they built on the mini heritage and brought in JCW. Again, since the 1 hast heritage with the 2002 Tii why wouldn't they build of that?

So while it's possible to have a M 1 series, I just don't think it will happen. In terms of badging your car - I just think if it's not a M why badge it as an M- I guess it's like buyiing a pair of no name shoes and putting a logo on it. Also, remember back in the days when all these guys try to pimp out their cars by putting nike swooshes on their cars? this reminds me of that sort of thing.

Sooooo having BMW badge our Cars on the steering while AND shifter with the M badge means nothing? I don't see the difference? If someone gets in the car they see it is M badged and that's ok...but from the rear they can't see it M badged? :iono::iono::iono:

thats because the car is standard, equiped with M parts.... not a special production number completely consumed by the M team...

just like you can get an "AMG" package on a CLS550 but it's not an AMG car...

nothing wrong with putting factory performance parts on the coresponding vehicles, but don't start name dropping like you bought the authentic performance variant of that model line...

every one is too caught up on the name. BMW can make this an M car w/o calling it an M1. Its not like they are going to be in a marketing meeting and say "Man I sure do wish we could make the 135 an M car but we just don't have anything to name it" come on ....

You can buy a BMW and put all the performance parts on it you want (factory or aftermarket), but if BMW didn't call it an ///M, it will never be one. Anyone who badges their car as an ///M is a poseur. Period.

It's as though I were to go to the gym, take steroids, and then walk around with a big 'S' on my chest, telling everyone I'm Superman. I'd be called a fool, and I'd deserve it...

One also should never decide that someone who likes deciding what is right for others is doing the wrong thing. It is their choice to decide for those others who are unable to make the right decisions. One can never decide that this deciding of what is right is wrong.

So you are planning to do something that would, by your own definition, make you a moron?

No, I think I wasn't being clear. I was agreeing with your statement that one shouldn't decide what is right for others. Including others who like to decide things for others.

I thought that was pretty classic too. He probably COULD fly if he didn't have the weight of that huge wing weighing him down!

There must be a word to describe a statement that is inherently self-conflicting... I think it starts with an 'h'...

Moving on, it's one thing to criticize someone for a reasonable and thoughtful choice they have made to suit their own tastes and preferences. That would be wrong. It is entirely another thing to have an opinion about another person's disengenuous and pretentious choices, made only to attract cheap attention and make themselves (or their cars, in this case) out to be something they are not.

What others do to their cars is of no concern to this moron, nor does it keep me awake at night. But even morons have a right to an opinion... especially on an internet forum.

Agreed. In fact, that concept is the very BASIS for internet forums . Confirmed to me on almost every forum I've ever read!
