I'm about to do an oil change but.....
I was thinking should I do one at 8200kms? Is it too early to do one? I'm not leasing my vehicle so I own it. I was wondering if I should follow the factory recommended schedule or just do one before the time comes? If I do an oil change out of my pocket, then when is the dealer freebie next then? When the computer says so? How much does an oil change cost by the ways. This will be my first so I didn't check out the price.

I did my own at 10.000 km - right when the computer told me to add a quart. The computer won't know about it unless you reset it. An oil change at the dealer is about $120 - or you can buy the filter and BMW Oil from Dan at United BMW for about half that.

doing oil & filter change can never been harmful to your car. how many km have you travelled so far? oil changes on a short periodic cycle is a good thing for turbo or any fi cars.

Honesty, if I leased the vehicle for 3 years, I would go with the BMW plan .....but if I own it, which I do, I would change it every 6 months or 7500 miles.....

My dealer (U.S.) charges me $80 to $100 for an "interim" oil change. Just make certain you specify only the oil/filter change with no other service inspections/replacements, etc., and also make sure that your dash countdown is not reset.
This will insure that you get your next scheduled "freebie" either at the mileage specified by the computer or one year from your purchase date - whichever comes first. Tom |
