A simple and relatively inexpensive way to be able to know what the light is about is to get a OBDII to bluetooth device and a software program called "torque" for your apple or droid phone or tablet. Torque will also give you extra gauges and other neat things. But it reads and clears trouble codes too. The software is $5 and the OBDII device should be about $25. It can be used in any relatively recent car. I've used mine in my Suzuki SUV and my bimmer. I have a scanner but wouldn't if I'd set up Torque first.
