yeah i argued with a mod and didn't break any rule that i could find listed anywhere, i just simply didn't do as i was told. Apparently you're not allowed to discuss an unpopular opinion. Once this happens, you're pretty much fucked because you're completely banned and can't even access PMs if you wanted to send an official complaint to someone.

eta also i was called a troll in my banning message. yeah, i've been posting for over a year and simply been trolling the entire time.

It happens on the smaller boards. Opinions are like assholes - everyone has one... EXCEPT on the internet where you don't have an asshole and you're only allowed to have an opinion when you run the show OR you agree with the person that does.

Question What's going on DTW 1er's?

I hope you all are enjoying your 1's with our cool mornings? I know that I am

Well, it's time to get my car ready for it's first winter with splash guards going on the front wheel wells today to keep the sides of the car sandblast and salt spray free. The wheel and snow tires will be on order soon. You just never know when the first snowfall will occur in SE MI.

I most definitely am - between the car making better power because of the cool air and the runflats not being quite as grippy this thing has been a hoot to drive!

And I'm actually wussing out on winter and garaging mine. Praveen cut me a great deal on his old Altima so I'll be sporting that starting November 1st... It's definitely going to be a long winter, but I've heard it's like getting a new car every spring by doing this!

Trying to get a winter car here as well. Getting close.
Any precautions or recomendations when garaging the 1 for six month?
What to do, what not to do, battery, tires, insurance, etc.... I've never stored a car for that long before, so..

Thanks, Hooner.

Hey, btw, what ever happened to our photos from last meet?

Definitely top off the tank and add some STA-BIL to keep the gas from going bad. Also, some recommend disconnecting the battery or putting a battery saver on it; however, I have intentions of running it for a little while each week.

I'm selling my wheels and tires as well (picking up a new set in the spring), so she'll be up on jack stands, but you should try to keep it off of the concrete. Picking up some vinyl flooring pieces from Home Depot is just fine for this - concrete is really bad about sucking the life out of the rubber!

Some people worry about flat spots and pick up something like this too: http://www.raceramps.com/flatstoppers.html

I get mixed reviews on the flat spots from my friends that have stored cars though. Not to mention I guess I'm just too cheap to drop $260 on those things when I could just roll the car forward and backwards a few times throughout its time in storage OR put it up on stands and store the wheels/tires in my basement!

One thing I DO intend to do that may be a bit overboard is picking up some silicate packets (the stuff they use to prevent moisture in boxes) and shoving them in my exhaust tips and then stuffing some socks in them to seal them up... The same thing will go for the airbox. This prevents the possibility of any moisture working its way back to the cylinders... Just make sure if you do the same that you pull the stuff out before you let it run!

Oh and be sure to switch your insurance to storage over the winter. I think it's costing me $20/month to keep the car insured this way. If you have a loan out on it (which I do), some financial institutions will give you a hard time if they find out just because they have concern that you will drive it; however, it's really hit or miss and the only way to really find out is to do it and wait to see if they contact you.

Hope this helps!

And if anyone else is reading this with good info, please, do tell!

WRT the photos: that's Clayton's responsibility. Since I know he's reading, IF he doesn't get them posted soon I'm going to give out his cell phone number here and let everyone start calling at TXT messaging him... Kidding, of course. Maybe.

BUMP -It's been AWFULLY quiet in here! What's new with everyone? Me? Not much. Just trying to get through my final semester of school (finally finishing up my Undergrad) and working. I'm doing a 13 credit load + 35+ hours/week, so it's keeping me pretty busy.

I'd still like to figure out a day to organize some karting between us and the Subaru guys that I (along w/Clayton and Ryan) hang with, but until I finish school it's just too busy to pull off.

With regard to the Subaru guys, here's the thread we post in a lot: Mount Clemens, MI - Bi-Weekly "ESSO" Gathering (READ 1st POST!)

I probably won't be back to the meets until mid-December; however, I know Clayton and Ryan show up a bit, so it may be worth going out and saying, "Hi."

Anyway, everyone chime in and let me know you're alive!

hi Sean,

Jason and I have gone the "winter beater" route. I got a 1988 Jeep cherokee and J got a toyota (I think). So I shall park the One when it gets nasty out. I think Ryan is going wheel/tire route.

Praveen cut me a deal I couldn't refuse on his '95 Altima, so I bought that from him about a month ago. It's one of the more "vanilla" cars I've owned, but it's clean, discreet and runs quite well so it'll be a great winter car. I'm looking forward to pulling the 1er out in the spring - I hear it's like having a brand new car all over again!

The only problem that I may run in to is Ryan is buying my stock wheels/tires so I'm concerned as to whether the wheels I'm interested in will be available by spring (I've already decided on Continental ContiSportContact 2s for tires)... So we'll see how long it ends up staying in storage. :iono:

Here's what I'm holding out for: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13145

And I would probably just pull the trigger on having your winters put on... It's gotten to the point that the "Snowflake" light has been coming on regularly and the stock tires are useless with stock power in this weather, let alone any cars that are theoretically "not stock." Better safe than sorry if some snow ends up falling (stock tires on snow = DANGEROUS, especially since the Mrs. drives it daily).

You're not buggin', man - gotta pass the time somehow, right?

And good call on the RR scoops! I'll probably tape my car up for its "winter detailing" next week and install mine then.

Dude, I can't wait to do mine... I'm like 3 weeks away from graduating and the 1er's been in the garage calling my name to clean and polish it (just no time)!
