What?!?! Pulling wheels isn't going to throw a code.

Did he paint or damage the TPMS sensors?

if he took the tires off the rims you might get a low pressure warning which would go away. however, if you got a check engine light that is not from taking the tires off unless he took apart some engine parts he shouldnt have.

Can you take a picture of the light that is on?

You can also use the left stalk(next to the steering) to navigate in to the service menus to see what the light is for

Sounds like BS to me,taking wheels off would not cause the engine light to come on. I change my complete set every winter and have never seen that.

The car should store the code even if the light is off. Take it to a parts store that can read the code or somewhere that can. See what set it off.

Depending on your dealership they may or may not charge just to read the code.

Best of luck!

Go take it to autozone, they do it for free. Don't take it to the dealer... thats a waste of your time and money.

I hope they didn't do a Ferris Bueller to your ride lol.

Seriously - the code will be stored and you can find out what tripped it. Sounds like you may be on the right track re: the gas cap. The first "mod" every BMW should get is a CAN tool...

Show us some pics of the wheels!

Sounding to me like these dudes took your beloved car for a test ride and weren't too nice.

Did you write down your miles before you dropped it off and when you picked it up? This needs to be done whenever you drop it off anywhere other than a BMW Dealership. Some guy you paid to paint your wheels, probly isn't the best or most trustable guys on the planet.

Lastly...

Read the owners manual, learn about your car. Owning a BMW is nice and all, but there are more bells and whistles than you can imagine. I understand you might not be a big tuner, but if you ever decide to tune, or upgrade your car, you need to know how things work incase you ever have any issues and someone isn't near by to help out.

Good luck with whatever the issue was.

I hope the theories of them taking it out for a test ride is just a joke; if my car threw a light every time I drove it hard I'd have epilepsy.

That said - if it's brand new, I'm pretty sure you're completely covered to take it in to BMW - I was told that from my SA.
