I honestly wasn't expecting them to look as good as they do. And will look 1000x better if you got rid of some of that wheel gap. Thanks for sharing

18" style 5s are a bit harder to come by.

I thought about doing a setup similar to this, but 17s were a bit small all the way around (I wish my fronts were 18s as I'm very low). They look good on there. But not my personal style for the 1 series. I'm sure you're very happy with the new outcome!

Thanks! Do you think an inch maybe with H&R Sport Springs would do it? Or should I go lower than that. I am wanting to avoid having to buy new shocks and struts right now, but I agree, I think it would look a lot better a little lower.

These wheels must be an acquired taste. Personally I think Style 5's look a little too old fashioned for the 1 series. And it's kind of weird I don't dig it because I really like the look of CCW Classics on these cars, and they're styled somewhat similarly. But it's your car, akerns! If you like them then roll with them!

Thank ya sir! I love the classic look of these wheels. I think it's kinda cool to mix the old school with the newer 1 series. The lips on these in person are just beautiful and I've gotten a ton of good comments on them from random people just driving down the road! I feel like a lot of wheels are overplayed on the 1 series (but do look nice!) so it feels fresh to change it up a bit and roll with some classics.

Nope 17s are perfect for the 1er especially when your a function guy!

Wow looking good! What suspension setup are you running? I still want it to be functional as it's my daily driver, but I definitely want to get rid of that wheel gap! Are H&R springs pretty good?

see his sig; he's running H&R. They are a reputable brand. I've had many cars with springs/cup kits and many with coils.

For the price of ST coilovers I couldn't justify only getting springs (although I haven't moved the coils from when I got them-the ability to change the ride height to your exact preferences is a big deal in my opinion)

But to each there own, that's a phenomenal set up on his 17s, makes me desire a more meaty tire set up if I ever buy another set of wheels

Oh okay thanks! If I decided to go with H&R's, let's say just the ones that drop an inch, would I have to replace the shocks and struts as well? I used to have an old Jetta that I ran Konis and Neuspeed springs on, but they were a 2 inch drop. The springs would definitely not work with the stocks shock/struts for that application, but what about a mild drop?

depends on mileage of vehicle, but in all honesty the struts were not designed to be loaded in that manner from factory so life expectancy is considerably less with lowering springs--that's true for any car from a desing/engineering perspective.

Its a hit and miss issue with most aftermarket products, people will tell you they don't need changed and that they are fine. On a mild drop that's probably true, they will ride perfectly fine. Unless you are slightly strapped for cash though, I would replace them all together for ease of job and for the fact that its really aggravating to have to take it all back apart to replace struts in XXXXX miles.

Good Springs are in the $300-$400 range, full cup kits (springs, struts, etc) its $700-$800 range, and I paid $860 shipped for my coilovers

I bought them from a forum member brand new for 100 dollars. Because the winter setup he had was too aggressive when he was going to use these springs. My car is a sports package so it already sits lower then your car in stock form and the the struts are M sport Aswell. So when I installed these on my car it was just a barely lowered then my stock Msport height from the sports package. My struts only had 14k miles at the time I installed these and I was going to replace my struts way later down the road with koni yellow adjustable. My current setup in the pictures seen have about 5 laps on the nurburgring and before the new wheels I had out about 22 laps on the nurburgring with the stock wheels and H&R springs and they still drive just fine!
