NE1 thinking of swapping grills?
I think some colours (e.g. TiAg) wear the chrome slat grills better than black slats and some (e.g. all black with shadowline) wear the black slats better.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the 128i comes with black slat grills for all colours and the 135i comes with chrome slats. I previously had a TiAg 2.5i Z4 that came with the black slat grill, but after a front-end fender bender, I replaced the black slat grill with the grey slats and it improved the look. I'm getting a TiAg 128i Cabrio and am thinking of replacing the std black grill with the silver ones. Anyone else given this any thought?:iono: |

As far as i know here in South Africa (and i'm pretty sure this is an international standard) all 4 cylinder models come with black kidney grille bars and the 6 cylinder models come with chrome kidney grille bars which means that 125i, 128i and 135i will feature the chrome front

I'm considering ordering a 128 cabrio as well. 328 cabrios have the chrome grills and trim and not just the 335 cabrio, so it's not a foregone conclusion that the 128 won't get them.
But, we won't know until the product information guide is released by BMW Canada. I might make a call to them next week. Nevertheless, if the car doesn't come with the chrome grill, I think we can replace them at a cost (suspicion is around $400). |

So it's a pretty inexpensive mod. And the swap was simple - no need to go to the dealer - took about 3 minutes per grill.. |

Grills are about $55USD each (at least they were on my Z4) and the Z4 grill had a lot more to it than a 1er grill. |

yea grills are not that much. If it was, it'd be better just taking your grill down, sand, wet sand, rattle can it and it should be good ... u can bake it in low heat to help the paint bond better to be less prone to chips. That's what i'd do. I think on TiAG, the car will look totally fine with a black grill. as long as you have a motif going on your car, (i.e black shadowline, black rims with a polish lip.)

I bought a spray can of Matte Black Trim paint. I took off the grill, sanded it down, and sprayed it with several coats, and now I have a shadow grill for $15.:headbang:

For sure..... I am going to get the name of the exact paint. They have it in matte black and gloss black.
Sand down the grills. Make sure they are scratched enough for the paint to stick. Spray a coat, let it try. Spray another coat, and let it dry. Continue this until you get the desired color. You will have to repaint it once every year to keep it nice. The paint will chip off over time. I have had it on my car for 2 years, and have not repainted it. This is really a clean mod.:headbang:

I didn't. The paint stuck fine to my grills. I just gave it 4 or 5 coats and it came out great.
